  1. Sounds like the crew did everything they could in the circumstances, and the city as well: Notified authorities within minutes of power trouble Port/city got in touch with the construction crew on either end of the bridge, they managed to stop traffic before the ship hit (unfortunately one crew was in the middle of the bridge and did not escape in time) Crew dropped anchors in desperate attempt to slow The real root causes here are: Infrastructure not meeting modern safety requirements Ships being allowed under their own power rather than by multiple tugs
  2. "Hey we should blow up a bridge." "Awesome, what's the best way?" "Dynamite" "Nice, but that would be discovered too easily. We'll need cover." "I agree. We'll plow a giant ship into the bridge at the same time the dynamite blows." And real people believe this. They also likely believe that it was done to cover for/promote minorities being hired in companies.
  3. UAF is claiming to have hit another landing ship (in dock) with a Neptune missile. For a ground invasion of a country with basically no navy, Russia's fleet losses are devastating. There is a real chance they could lose most of the Black Sea fleet by the time this war is over.
  4. Cargo ship that hit Baltimore bridge was involved in Antwerp collision in 2016 | Baltimore bridge collapse | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM The Dali was reportedly detained in Belgium after scraping side of quay and significantly damaging part of hull in good weather
  5. Diddy's LA home raided by Homeland Security WWW.FOXLA.COM Diddy's Los Angeles home was raided by the feds Monday, officials said. Almost certainly related to the investigations his rapes and sex trafficking allegations.
  6. My wife plays a tonne of cozy games on Switch Lite, but wants even more on Steam (but hates playing on her PC in the evening). Right now the old LCD Decks are on sale in Canada for $499 CAD...is the LCD Deck still a good choice? Or is it worth the $200+ to upgrade to the OLED? Main two choices would be: 256GB LCD - $499 CAD ($367 USD) 512GB OLED - $689 CAD ($507 USD) Any thoughts are appreciated!
  7. At this point in American capitalism (I hate to call it "late stage capitalism" because I don't think it's ever really been that different) I don't think institutional reforms are really that possible. Shareholders and private equity firms (when they control the capital) are hell-bent on extracting as much value in the short term, and if boards want to make that harder (by acting more ethically and slowing profits down for safety, etc) then the boards will just be sacked in favour of ones willing to extract more money.
  8. One of the captured "suspects" has had his ear cut off. The knife is already up for auction in Russia. One suspect has been electrocuted by his genitals (video was released by Russian police). This is what Russia is.
  9. Sounds like Ukraine's strike on Sevastopol may have damaged or destroyed two more large Russian landing ships, possibly three.
  10. Major issue (unless something has changed) is that they are basically anti-news (political).
  11. Very large Ukrainian attack on Sevastopol right now. 25 to 30 Ukrainian missiles "shot down" (i.e. hit their targets). Some videos of massive explosions at the Russian base. Edit: Looks like Ukraine hit the "Information and Computing Center of the Black Sea Fleet" with at least 3 Storm Shadows.
  12. Putin is now saying that the terrorists were trying to escape to Ukraine, where "a window was opened." Absurd, of course. Also turns out the four Tajik men they've accused are likely all innocent (at least three are not in Moscow).
  13. Putin dismissed US warnings about a potential terror incident as 'blackmail' just 3 days before concert hall attack WWW.BUSINESSINSIDER.COM The US embassy in Russia issued a security alert earlier this month warning that a possible terror attack was imminent.
  14. Has anyone else posted about this? Dragon's Dogma 2 launches to "Mostly Negative" review bombing after microtransaction reveal | Windows Central WWW.WINDOWSCENTRAL.COM Look at how they massacred my boy. I know the developer previously said they didn't include easy fast travel because it defeats the spirit of the game, or some BS. And then...they sell fast travel ability (and other things) through micro-transactions?
  15. "As you can see, the Ukrainian Islamic Nation has disturbed our peace at home, and we have no choice but to remove Ayatollah Zelenskyy." EDIT - Also, this could definitely be part of the calculation of the Islamic State (assuming it was them)—get Russia even more deeply invested in Ukraine, so that IS/others have a better shot at Chechnyan War III.
  16. I hope this is similar to Andor where no one was asking for it, but because it doesn't need to actually do anything in the larger universe, it ends up having the freedom to just tell a great story. All the right pieces are there.
  17. Ugh. I know the US and UK were warning of imminent terror attacks in Russia that they had intelligence of, presumably from Islamic extremists from central Asian territories held by Russia.
  18. Nothing like your party devolving into civil war during a Presidential election.
  19. Just finished Severance (little late to the party, but it was fantastic) so probably going to start this this weekend. I liked the book series (I actually think Book 4 was the best, which is by a different author but still part of the canon).
