  1. The biggest thing you can do about crime is give poor people money, but that's not sexy.
  2. A sound investment (even if he loses it) if it potentially gets him favoured government contracts or even a cabinet position in a future Trump government.
  3. This follows Macron saying that deployment of French forces to Ukraine is possible if Russia achieves a breakthrough and approaches western Ukraine. I don't actually believe France would do anything, it's possible Poland would act unilaterally outside NATO in very specific circumstances. Either way, it can't be coincidence that multiple leaders are on record in the past week saying that western forces on the ground in Ukraine is possible depending on what Russia does. But what is the goal of these statements? Do deter Russia?
  4. Great little video on how Dune is edited to evoke sensory feelings, often through establishing shots that are not wide, but rather on people touching things in the world. Definitely fits in with Denis' vision of movies being about sight and sound, and not about dialogue.
  5. Russia just attempted to assassinate Zelensky with a ballistic missile, along with the Prime Minister of Greece. They were meeting in Odessa, and Zelenskyy's motorcade was targeted by a missile strike while he was 150m away from the Greek delegation.
  6. SCOTUS is just a political group now, so you might as well just appoint young political staffers with no legal background. SCOTUS can just issue rulings like "Yes, XXX is no longer allowed." Adding all the legal reasonings is just convention, it's not legally required.
  7. I had to pirate a cam version just to quickly see a few parts again before I go again in theatres. Fuck, the war council scene is so powerful, especially this line:
  8. Ideally, the running of federal elections should be done by the federal government, and states should have no place.
  9. Until a court rules "the law says they can't be in office, but it doesn't describe a mechanism for removing them, so they can remain" or some other BS. The people who don't care about the rules aren't going to jump at enforcing them when it means they can hold power. The US is so close to a tipping point where all rules that impede power are going to be ignored through some very thing pretenses.
  10. France makes abortion a constitutional right in historic Versailles vote | France | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Eiffel Tower lit up to mark change, seen as way of protecting law that decriminalised abortion in 1975 Excellent news.
  11. Think I might go see this again. A few moments have stuck with me and I need to see them again: Worm riding War council Final scene
  12. Box Office: ‘Dune: Part Two’ Rides to Impressive $32 Million Opening Day VARIETY.COM Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune: Part Two' will launch to the biggest box office opening of 2024.
  13. I can't wait until the inevitable 5-hour combined movie that people will splice.
  14. Also, soundtrack is GOAT. Final song/scene of the film is just incredible:
  15. Saw it in a full IMAX and will echo Mercury's praise. 10/10, movie of the year. Performances were outstanding. Javier Bardem as Stilgar was incredible, and Chalamet portrayed Paul's descent/ascent into power so terrifyingly. There is no doubt in my mind that Dune Part 3 will be made. Casual people leaving the theatre clearly wanted more, and while the movie wraps up the story, it leaves the next part clearly wide open and waiting. Fuck...the last scene was so powerful. It made (I think) minor deviations from the book, no greater or worse than the LOTR trilogy, and it kept the spirit of the book 100%.
