The idea of unions is solidarity with others, strength in numbers. "The union makes us strong" as the song goes. Police violate that creed by not standing with other union members in their time of need, and with their history of actively fighting unions on behalf of management. The strength of police comes from their monopoly of legal, state force and solidarity amongst themselves, not solidarity with the greater labor movement. They have no place alongside traditional labor unions.
