  1. I can't imagine being the most beloved children's author of our time, and throwing all the goodwill away to be a reactionary shit.
  2. If the GOP infested courts haven't found that paying your courts costs before being able to vote (and the state is under no obligation to tell how much you owe) isn't a poll tax, there's no way they'll find that a measly stamp cost is a poll tax. Because they're not calling it a poll tax it's fine! It may be functionally identical as a poll tax, but they're not calling it a poll tax, it's fine! Everything's fine!
  3. Holy shit is actually worse than this tweet let's on For those unfamiliar... http://en.wikipedia.org//static/favicon/wikipedia.ico Lochner era - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG http://en.wikipedia.org//static/favicon/wikipedia.ico Lochner v. New York - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  4. It's worth repeating, once again, all of these little fuckers are heritage foundation freaks, they're the real deal, there won't be any more Kennedy's or David Souter's, they're going to all look exactly like Kav. Elite prep school, child of elite judges or lawyers, elite undergrad, elite law, clerking for scalia or thomas or whomever, heritage foundation goons all. Hypocrisy won't matter, intellectual dishonesty won't matter, overturning precedent won't matter, they're there for a singular reason: to roll back all social and material gains since reconstruction, and they're using the ultimate trump card in our system to do it: lifetime appointments to judicial positions where there is no recourse. And threatening to pack the courts, as FDR did in the 30's I fear will only embolden them instead of getting them to change tune. It's exactly why the courts need packed, or you will have openly right wing partisan judges on the bench for the next 50+ years, and with that any hope for a better tomorrow is gone.
  5. https://joebiden.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/UNITY-TASK-FORCE-RECOMMENDATIONS.pdf Democrats will decriminalize marijuana use and reschedule it through executive action on the federal level.
  6. It would that's why even if they were for it, it would be just as uphill a battle Congressional action won't happen (big fat maybe if the filibuster is gone, which is a longer shot than legalization) and Biden won't deschedule, he won't! He's only calling for rescheduling the drug, not descheduling!
  7. Alaska, Maine (should Susan win, ugh), colorado (gardner won't win lol), and that's it for states with legal weed and republican senators
  8. Descheduling either requires the president/administration to do so, or have congress pass a bill, signed by said president, to remove it from the list of controlled substances. What Schumer is talking about here, and whatever congress does, is subject to congressional rules like the filibuster. I just don't see a Biden administration unilaterally descheduling!
  9. It wholly irrelevant unless he can whip the caucus (and Joe biden) into doing away with the filibuster (and not vetoing the bill) This might be the closest thing to legalization and I only see maybe five republicans, tops, who could consider such a bill: Mike Lee, Paul, Mitch (kentucky has a big help industry), and uh....who knows. Might not be much more than that. Maybe cornyn should he win. That's about it though. Would manchin vote for it? Who knows!
  10. Additionally, Racial Disparities Persist in Maternal Morbidity, Mortality and Infant Health WWW.AJMC.COM American women die in childbirth at a higher rate than in any other developed country, while non-Hispanic Black women are more than 3 times more likely to have a maternal death than...
  11. This may have happened, or not, I don't know, but I do know that these people at ICE do not deserve the benefit of the doubt, and that we won't be able to get a full accounting of the facts at least a few years into a hypothetical Biden presidency, if ever.
  12. In this country at worst he will get a ticket for fleeing the scene. Hitting someone with a car is as close as you can get to getting away with murder
  13. I'm 100% for this as long as Rogan can smoke a big fat blunt during the debate, on screen. No prepared questions, just Rogan being Rogan. Bonus if he asks them if they've ever had elk meat
  14. Makes sense in that context. You can do a whole lot of interesting things, a lot more quickly, with python/pandas than you can with just running sql queries
  15. Obviously, but the point is that SQL often feeds into a python/pandas scripts that easily work with other tools in the python ecosystem. For that reason, pandas and sql are apples and oranges! There are sometimes similar functions and capabilities, but to my knowledge you can't really query a relational database without sql! Even the pandas read_sql_query function requires you to write a domain/database specific sql statement in order to use it.
