After I posted that comment I booted up my Quest 2 after not having messed with it in a couple months, I wanted to see if they'd done anything with Horizon Worlds, their one and only "metaverse" app. The headset had an update, all of my games also had updates, after slogging through all that and rebooting the headset I had to link my old account with a new Meta account. After wading through all that I loaded up Horizon Worlds and it kept giving me a connection error message that would immediately return when I acknowledge it and I had to use the Quest 2's menu to kill the app and get out. That was my metaverse experience today.

It doesn't help that they've sunk an enormous amount of resources into the metaverse shit that's both hard to really define and no one really wants.

I think it'll be easier this time around. Before there were tons of products that included that 30 pin connector from speaker docks to cars that didn't come with USB, but just had one of those cables with that connector dangling out of the center console. Now smart speakers have replaced the speaker dock and cars have been including just straight USB ports for years now. Lightning was great when the other standard was Micro-USB, but it's time to retire it like the 30 pin connector that came before.

I'm not even convinced it's about selling cables anymore. You can buy lightning cables for the same price as USB C cables next to the gas station cash register.
