  1. People expected BILL WATTERSON to have a Calvin and Hobbes Cinematic Universe????
  2. The most unbelievable part of that story is that he has a family member still in contact with him.
  3. Russ has been pretty good this year, but that defense is so bad. Payton talked a ton of shit this offseason and has not been able to back it up at all.
  4. 49ers $300 1. 49ers TD 2. Cowboys 3. Bears-Commanders 4. Bears 5. Houston/Indy/New England
  5. I have no opinion on Taylor Swift, but Kelce is a boring try-hard. He seems so desperate to be interesting when he has no real personality.
  6. That was rather beautifully written. You can see how many Western tropes originated with this book. Now reading If They Move…Kill ‘Em! A biography on Sam Peckinpah.
  7. Terrible news. I liked that guy. George Kirby threw a knuckleball today in his honor (and it was gorgeous).
  8. Lol. Yeah a South African aristocrat is just obviously super left. He's always been a shitbag, but the thing that really pushed him into full-blown chud territory was his daughter simultaneously coming out as trans and wanting nothing to do with him. Rather than reflect on what made him such a shitty father that his own kid wanted nothing to do with him, he (like all conservatives) lashed out and blamed everyone else.
  9. September: The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp 5/5 Incredible, full of life, while avoiding cloying sentimentality. Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, and Colonel Blimp are possibly the greatest trio of movies from anyone? Very few directors can match that. A Canterbury Tale 4.5/5 I kept rolling with the Archers. This is really lovely with some great shots. I'd love to watch this with my daughter as a holiday film when she gets older. I Know Where I'm Going! 4/5 The last of the Archers that I watched. Solid rom/com. Roger Livesey kicks ass. Henry Fool 2.5/5 Did not connect with this one. Thought the humor was way more full of misses than hits. The Wild Bunch 5/5 Rewatched this as I decided to also read a biography of Sam Peckinpah. No greater master at crosscutting or editing than he. The Last Run 3.5/5 Fun car chase movie with George C. Scott. Some really lovely jackets. Peak fashion. Do The Right Thing 4.5/5 I'd never seen this before. What a cast, what a story, what an always-timely message. White Lighting 3/5 Fun seeing a bunch of guys who pop up in Peckinpah movies. Gloria 2.5/5 I really wanted to like this, I like John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands, but I just think it didn't really work. Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 5/5 Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. I particularly liked the score (Philip Glass), but this is a movie where everything (set design, costumes, cinematography) just comes together perfectly.
