  1. The poor, in general, aren't benefitting from this. "The poor", for the most part, don't have student loans (or at least, have them at a far smaller rate than any other group). This is largely going to a very specific middle class demographic. The U.S. has a fucked up way of educating it's people, and this is another example of spending money that does almost nothing to fix the problem and doesn't target the money at people in the most need.
  2. The median personal income is $44,225, the median family income is $63,214. If you're giving cash handouts to people, perhaps limiting it to people who make less than average would be the good start for a cap.
  3. $125k. I'm glad they are limiting it to the people truly in need. How do you afford food if you only make $90k per year?
  4. Vaccine mandates have been all but lifted in Canada. They are no longer required anywhere by the Federal or Provincial governments. And there has never been a mandate here that enforced boosters. They no longer demonstrated a meaningful incentive for higher vaccination. A booster does limit your ability to transmit the virus, but only for a few months - and there is no appetite from ANYONE to enforce boosters every few months. Western University's decision is pandering to uniformed fears in their faculty, not anything based on science.
  5. Giving a handout to university grads sounds like a pretty regressive tax action, whether it needs congressional approval or not.
  6. Imagine the good this would do if it were targeted at homeless programs, or for supporting single mothers rather than University grads.
  7. University of Western Ontario is now instituting a mask mandate and vaccine mandate (requiring at least one booster). Given that the take up of boosters in this age range is ~35%, it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
  8. They have not announced when they will be coming to Canada (expect them to be after they come to the US). And when they do, to be released to older folks first. People are currently eligible to get another booster 90-days after the previous one. If you're concerned about it, I wouldn't wait.
  9. I was intrigued by the "50 square foot homes". These are glorified lean-tos. The roof is literally made out of chicken wire and tarps. Las Vegas did provide some land for at least 4 of these shelters. However, if you go into a residential neighbourhood and put up a lean-to with no electrical or plumbing, doesn't meet any building code and with no permit -- you're going to have to tear it down.
  10. Been playing Vampire Survivors. I can't say it is good. I will say it is extremely addicting. Also put about 8 hours into The Ascent. Shocking that this game was put together by 12 people. The combat is tremendously fun, the story is inconsequential, so it's great for casual play. My only complaints are really around the bad UI, and the small text.
  11. I really wanted to like DMC5, but it ended up being a big "meh" for me. The combat was "OK", but, IMHO became overly complex as the game progressed. I couldn't get into the story at all (and there was a LOT of it).
  12. No. My interpretation was you were mocking an actual right wing trope for doing the exact same thing half the board has spent the last 18-months doing about Republicans in the Covid thread.
  13. You have to be a special kind of stupid to be on top of a 2-storey train travelling at 150 km/h.
  14. What about The Ascent? it’s a twin-stick shooter RPG. I’m about 5 hours in. Not mechanically difficult, and the cut scenes are short, infrequent and inconsequential.
  15. You're right, I think Brady is no better than third -- Rodgers and Mahomes are probably better.
  16. IMHO, moderates generally dislike Trudeau as much as Poilievre. If they want to form a new party, it will have to be with someone other than Charest. He can't win in Quebec.
  17. The only way I can think of to curb the pandemic is to: 1) Convince the MSM with multiple partners to be monogamous/abstinent for a fairly long period of time 2) Convince the MSM with multiple partners to to get vaccinated I don't think 1 is realistic. In solution 2, you need to convince the people at risk to come forward and get vaccinated. How can you do that without talking about who is at risk? Or, do you know of a better way?
