I was being facetious with the smoke show comment considering how often it’s used here, but at the same time, I have a soft spot for Columbians. I was expecting a Ginni Thomas.

The interesting thing about all the ways the series and movies have handled Venom is how different it was from the comics. When Venom initially revealed himself to Spider-Man, he has absolutely no idea who Eddie Brock is, THEN Eddie Brock goes into his history of why he hates Spider-Man, which they’ve winced retconned into revealing that the real reason he hated Spider-Man was because he had cancer and the symbiote was the only thing keeping him alive and he was afraid that one day Peter would actually want the symbiote back. Ever since then though, it’s always “they’re childhood friends or coworkers”. That said, the best Venom wasn’t even Eddie Brock, it was Mac Gargan (the Scorpion). Unlike Eddie who had a warped sense of justice, Gargan was such a piece of shit psycho when he had the symbiote. He bites off a guy’s arm!

Venom wasn’t even the problem for me, it was when they introduced CARNAGE where I went “this shit sucks” because Marvel decided Spider-Man needed a “Joker”. Maximum Carnage remains one of the worst things to come out of the 90s besides the Clone Saga. Here’s 14 issues of Spidey, Venom, MORBIUS, and a bunch of other people chasing Carnage and his rag tag group of D-list villains. The only time Carnage was cool was when Norman Osborn somehow got the Carnage symbiote and became the “Red Goblin”.

The ironic part of all this? It’s another notch on the “everything Trump touches dies” counter. McCarthy was the first Republican to go crawling back to Trump.
