  1. Unless you're a privileged snot like Cruz I wouldn't worry about it. I think these terrible Simpsons impressions are the worst thing he has ever done. Bar none.
  2. Eh, kind of a meaningless statement because many organizations are going to have some characteristic of a cult. Your workplace is probably a cult to some degree. But when people think of cults and what makes a stereotypical "cult" a cult Mormonism is going to check off 90% of those boxes.
  3. I resonate so much with this. "Keeping the Sabbath holy" is so different depending on the family and who is trying to be the most righteous or whatever. I know some families that only allow their kids to read or listen to things produced by the church on Sundays, never change out of their church clothes, and prepare every meal the day before and then don't do any cleaning on Sundays. Then there were the families like mine that pretty much considered the sabbath finished once we walked out the church doors. And everything in between. Also the weird rules some families have re: catch but no baseball. Board games are cool, but playing Mario Party would be breaking the Sabbath. Face cards are a sin but you can go ahead and play "21" with Phase 10 cards or whatever. Shopping is bad but go ahead and pump gas if you need to. So weird and Pharasaical. Our weddings are weird too. In the Mormon marriage ceremony there is no exchange of rings or affection. You take your spouse-to-be by the Patriarchal Grip (aka "the sure sign of the nail") and the woman "gives" herself to the man and the man "receives" her. These are done in the same building as the magic underwear. I forgot that about Adventists and the no dancing. Very odd. Mormons actually love to dance and make a big show of it.
  4. Here's what Mormon scripture has to say about the Catholic Church: And Jesus in some heaven temple? Pfft. Mormons built a temple in Ohio and Jesus himself came to the opening ceremonies. These things aren't taught as allegories. They are taught as things that actually physically, literally happened and are recorded as historical events in the Mormon church. Get on our level! (And I just want to make it clear in case it wasn't, I don't subscribe to this belief system anymore.)
  5. Bruh, our guy Joseph Smith said Native Americans were actually Jews and that one of them appeared to him in several visions and guided him to a book written on gold plates buried in upstate New York.
  6. My team's (Mariners) stadium looks the same before COVID, during COVID, and is looking the same after COVID. Nowhere near that crowded.
  7. Pretty sure I still have everybody beat on the weirdness scale.
  8. @b_m_b_m_b_m remember when I was talking shit about South Dakota?
  9. How are you liking the new job? And are you me? My first job out of college was my previous job. I felt stuck and like I wasn't progressing. And the company has been around for almost 20 years but they still act like they're a startup. The CEO's job seems like it was only to get funding from VCs. Like, how long are we going to go like this? Slowly sinking ship indeed.
  10. That's my plan. I don't think they will though. I've been with the current company since August of 2019.
  11. What did you end up doing/deciding? I just got a job offer doing exactly what I'm doing now but for quite a bit more money. And benefits that are pretty much 1:1 in terms of quality, but the new company takes on a bigger share of the cost. So I feel like my quality of life would go up a little. Also it's a mile from my house. I could literally bike or walk there every day when it's time to go back to the office whereas I currently either have to drive 20 min or bike -> bus -> train -> bike to the office (40 min). But my dilemma is that my current company offers a lot of individual growth. I feel like I've been learning a lot and progressing towards becoming a software developer which is my end goal. I don't know if that will be the same at the new place. And you should never feel bad about leaving a job for more money... I do kind of feel bad because my current company: Hired me when I had no actual experience doing what I currently do; just lots of theoretical knowledge Hired me for more than I asked for Has given me two raises in less than two years, one of which was sizable Good bosses that teach me a ton and want me to progress Free lunch (when not in pandemic times) I guess I just feel no animosity towards the institution or any of its individual contributors. Which is the complete opposite of every other job I've ever left where it was for feeling stagnated and hating the institution and its members. So that's giving me pause when all the numbers say I should just move on.
  12. Sounds like he would have gotten a gun even with all the things everybody agrees on. Abolish the 2A.
  13. I'm ignorant. What does a banker even do outside of trading and banking hours?
