  1. Weirdly, even kids coming out of comp sci don't understand how file structures work, or common Windows/macOS functions. It's becoming a real problem in IT. On the other hand...great job security for people in IT.
  2. I had Insider and I sponsored someone—it took 8+ years for IGN to cancel the sponsorship. Each year they would charge my card and I would have to dispute it to get it reversed. I would submit ticket after ticket (I didn't even post there anymore) each year. I don't even remember who I sponsored, lol.
  3. Russia wants to turn Kharkiv into uninhabitable “grey zone” – The Economist WWW.PRAVDA.COM.UA British media outlet The Economist, with reference to military sources in Kyiv, assumes that Russia decided to turn the city of Kharkiv into a “grey zone” uninhabitable for civilians.
  4. I remember going to the IGN Boards in 2001 or so after Daily Radar closed down. It's been a great ride so far, let's keep it going until we're all 80!
  5. Oh, and it was confirmed recently that Biden told Zelenskyy to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries because he didn't want the price of oil to rise globally. Fuck the US.
  6. Massive Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine last night, they (successfully) targeted power infrastructure. The US needs to let Ukraine use western weapons against targets in Russia NOW. Russia is using North Korean and Chinese supplies in Ukraine, and unless Ukraine is allowed to target launchers and airbases in Russia with ATACMS and other tools, they will never be able to stop the launch of all these drones and missiles.
  7. Yeah but have you considered that saying your model has 10x the input as competing models could boost your short-term stock dividend by up to 5%?
  8. It's a complete story for Paul, who can basically be assumed to be soon dead at the end, if you so choose to believe. It's open-ended in terms of the fate of the universe and his children, etc, but that's okay if you assume the first and second book are about the effect he's had on the universe a singular, terrifying figure. It's the same how you could have ended the Star Wars series after the original movie and still be satisfied—yes, it leaves the universe unexplored, the primary story (that the movie set out to tell) has been told.
  9. If Herbert had stopped after Dune Messiah, it would have been a good ending. If he had stopped after God Emperor of Dune, that also would have been a good ending. There are multiple places you can end reading the OG 6 books and be satisfied, imo. In terms of cinematic adaptations, I think ending after Messiah is perfect.
  10. Will be interesting to see how the American military industrial complex handles this, if it even can: wsj.com WWW.WSJ.COM Basically, American drones suck because they are too expensive, unreliable, and aren't durable in the field. Ukraine has had to rely on mass-market homemade (or commercial) drones that can defeat Russian jamming and other countermeasures. The US MIC is amazing at producing the highest-tech stuff...but if war is switching to mass drone attacks, can it produce something that is very cheap, made on a huge scale, and also reliable and durable?
  11. I think it absolutely depends on what the job is and who the people are doing the job. There are some jobs that obviously need to be done in-person, usually due to technical limitations. There are others that can be done remotely without any impact (and in fact, sometimes improvement). Then there's a mash (probably 50% of total) that can be done remotely, but it could have an impact either way depending on the person.
  12. State of emergency for the day makes sense if you think an area will be receiving hundreds of thousands of people and that allows you to legally deploy extra resources...but 14 days doesn't make sense.
  13. Yep! My coworker/friend wanted to go for the eclipse as he's into astronomy, and we turned it into a couples trip for 5 days. While the eclipse was amazing, my wife and I mostly just wanted to go for the food and sights. He originally considered Texas when he was going by himself, but we decided on Montreal in the end as he didn't feel as safe in the US (same-sex married), unfortunately.
  14. Was great in Montreal, had clear skies.
  15. X's AI chatbot Grok made up a fake trending headline about Iran attacking Israel | Mashable MASHABLE.COM The AI-generated false headline was promoted by X in its official trending news section.
  16. Russians have begun using guided glide bombs against Kharkiv daily, now. They are targeting civilian buildings. These bombs are very difficult to intercept. Monsters.
  17. Only two days into the trip so I'm sure I'll have more later, but: I'd definitely recommend staying in Old Montreal. Cobblestone streets and everything is 200+ years old, plus a Metro stop so easy access to the rest of the city. Feels like Europe. So far the best restaurant has actually been Lacutta, which is BBQ. Otherwise, Greenspot was fantastic for poutine and smoked meat sandwiches and other Quebecois food. Greasy spoon type of diner. We haven't really done any night life since we're not into that, we're more into the history and walking around. Lots of fantastic little cafes, patisseries, and boulangeries. I'd move to Old Montreal if I could...but even 1-bedroom, 1-bedroom apartments are over $1 million in a lot of buildings. Yikes! We went to the Biodome, which was good, but crowded. Biggest impression of the city so far is just how safe it is, and feels.
  18. lol. I didn't take my photo gear because I wanted to enjoy the moments! Only photos are from my phone: The hotel we're in is 193 years old, it's pretty neat.
  19. Did anyone post about the guy at the drive-thru who threatened the fast food worker with a gun because the worker gave him a discount (because there was a sale)?
  20. I also forgot how big Montreal is, 4 million people. 4x my entire province in one city. And the subway cars have giant RUBBER WHEELS, it's insane.
  21. lol, none so far. Crazy how beautiful everyone here is, though. And French accents are very nice. It's the most bilingual place I've been, people just switching between French and English all the time. Bonjour-hi is the standard greeting. Just had the mandatory poutine, and smoked meat sandwich (Green spot).
