Television WandaVision OT - For the Children!

So X-Men are coming, right!? -
Agree with CitizensVectron.... You should always be making more in total $s even if you hit a higher tax bracket for that paycheck or even the year. That's how a progressive tax system works: Everyone pays the same tax rate on the first $X, and a slightly higher rate on dollar $X+1 up to $Y. Example: Let's say we have some made up numbers like: below $30,000 is the 10% tax bracket, $30,000-$55,000 is 20% tax bracket, and above $55,000 is 30% tax bracket Normal Work Week: If you make $1,000 / Week or $52,000 / Year, you will pay a 10% tax on the first $30,000 ($3,000), and then a 20% tax on the remaining $22,000 ($4,400) for a total Tax of $7,400 and take home of $44,600. If you convert that to a weekly basis, you will pay a 10% tax on the first $577 ($58), and then a 20% tax on the remaining $423 ($85) for a total weekly Tax of $142 and weekly take home of $858. Overtime Work Week: If you now work some overtime, and make $1,200 / Week or $62,400 / year, you will still pay a 10% tax on the first $30,000 ($3,000), a 20% tax on the next $25,000 ($5,000), and finally a 30% tax on the remaining $7,400 ($2,220) for a total Tax of $10,220 and take home of $44,600. If you convert that to a weekly basis, you will still pay a 10% tax on the first $577 ($58), a 20% tax on the next $481 ($96), and finally a 30% tax on the remaining $142 ($43) for a total weekly Tax of $197 and weekly take home of $1,003. Even though you were taxed $54 additional in an Overtime week, you earned $200 and took home an additional $146. Unless a company is doing something wrong, there's no way to have a higher tax rate cause the taxes to increase more than the increased income. It seemed like the thinking was the new tax rate of 30% would apply to the entire $1,200, which would be $360 in taxes and $840 take home, or $18 less than no over time scenario.... but that's not how the tax brackets work.

Agreed, Joe's tweet is saying don't give $600, give $2,000. I haven't seen anyone saying $2,600. People were pushing for $2,000, due to Republicans and Trump they only got through $600. Now with Democrats in charge soon, hopefully they'll be able to get through the remaining $1,400 they originally wanted, but we'll see what they're able to get through.

Movies Tom Cruise Goes Off... Again
Gavin King replied to skillzdadirecta's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
This made me like Tom Cruise a bit more actually. He's 100% right here. Some dumb ass crew members not following some simple rules and threatening to put into jeopardy millions of dollars, the movie as whole and the crews jobs, and he's probably not wrong either on even other movies and crews and the industry. I don't doubt that success or failure, that shoot is going to be one of the lead examples on how the industry can get back up and running. -

Looks fun, I'd watch it. Wonder if they'll surprise-connect it to the John Wick universe. -
Television The Mandalorian OT - This is the Way
Gavin King replied to Commissar SFLUFAN's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
In Rebels, there's a 2 minute epilogue with Ashoka that is X amount of time after the rest of Rebels. We know that The Mandalorian is about 4-5 years after most of Rebels, but we don't know how long X is. X could be 1-3 years or it could be 5-6 years, who knows. Since Ashoka is looking for Thrawn who disappeared with Ezra, my guess is it's the later. She hears Thrawn is back, is looking for him, gets the info she needs from him somehow and then goes to bring Ezra back. -
I don't think Trump every actually wanted to win the Primary, let alone the Election. He stumbled into connecting with people and we're here now. I think if he 'runs' again, it'll just be so he can continue to raise money, line his own pockets, pay for his legal fees, and continue to have a podium to spew garbage. I'd be surprised if by the time votes actually start being cast, he'd still be in the race. He'll find an excuse to not be in it, as he doesn't actually want the job, and he'll never put himself in a position to lose again. Lose one time, he can claim its rigged, lose again, and it's harder to keep saying that.

My Thanksgiving plans: Wife, + 2 1/2 year old son + Me = that's it. Picking up a Thanksgiving meal for two from Hy-Vee the day before so the wife doesn't have to spend the day cooking. Will do some short video calls with either side of family, buy otherwise a pretty low-key 4-day weekend is all that's planned . It sucks, but in the grand scheme of things, this is a pretty minor sacrifice. I'm in MN so we're shut down the next 4 weeks and aren't supposed to go inside with anyone outside of household. Glad to see some people curtailing their Thanksgiving plans, but honestly, it seems crazy to have any kind of plans right now outside their household. Hospitals are maxed out. The numbers are going to skyrocket. If you or your loved ones catch this, they might not get adequate care. My family and I are basically locked down other than grocery store runs until the spring.

+1 to the lurkers who enjoy the conversations and (mostly) good discussions. Post rarely and randomly, and might not be on here every day, but probably a week hasn't gone by in years where I don't log in and check out the latest news/discussion. I'm trying to remember when I first started lurking, probably back around 2001 on the old IGN boards.

Television Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Trailer

I could watch Jon Hamm do Larry all day... man that was gold! -
The Democrats should pick their candidate based on their ideals and wants, and not out of fear of what the GOP will say about their candidate in the general election. Picking the most vanilla candidate in hopes that the mean bully GOP won't pick on them is exactly why they lose so much even when the vast majority of the public agrees with them on the issues. The GOP will pick on their candidate and make-up BS and the easily manipulated or 1-issue voters will believe it no matter who the Democrats pick. They should play offense, not crippling defense. Especially against an extremely weak opponent like Trump. It should be a so much easier win for the Democrats than normal with Trump as the GOP figure head. Somehow Hillary managed to screw it up. Democrats are setting themselves up to somehow do it again even though unlike in 2016 where there were some voters who somehow convinced themselves that Trump might be good for the system and 'clean the swamp', there should be no voters under that illusion in 2020. Voters are this point are either with Trump or their not. The same Democrats who have preached unity, are the same ones who are hypocritically starting to tear it apart. It should not be difficult to say you will fully support and vote for whoever the Democrat nominee is, whether that's Bernie, Bloomberg, Biden, or any of the rest. That being said, I think the Democrats need to pick a candidate who is capable of exciting the public outside of the typical Democrat base. The Democrat base that pay attention and vote every election, should be an automatic with Trump being the other choice no matter if their preferred candidate is the nominee or not (actual unity). The Democrats need someone who can excite another block, whether that's the independents in the middle, or the far left/young voters who typically stay home. I don't think this election will be won by people choosing between Trump or the Democrat nominee. Trump has his voters, they're locked in. This will be won or loss based on people choosing to vote for the Democrat nominee or sit out. I don't think a "we're not trump" argument gets any of those blocks off their butts to vote. Give them a reason to vote for you, not a reason to vote against the other guy.

Television Rick and Morty return November 2019
Gavin King replied to silentbob's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Can't wait for Rick and Morty. I'm happily oblivious to the 'toxic' audience that apparently is out there. Even if I knew about it, who care, it's a great show. I've rewatched the first three season so many times. Can't wait for some new content. -

For those wondering why people are bumping up against Dany going Mad Queen. I think any big fan understands the whole show has been building up to it, there's been clues going back to season 1, and there's reasons for it. The thing people are being bumped up against is that it feels like the show has been on a steady path for 7 seasons of building it up and on a path from 0 to 100, we got to like 30 over 7 seasons, and the last couple of episodes were quick and maybe built it up to 40-50, but then last episode jumped it all the way to 100 in the span of a couple of minutes. Add onto the fact that the last season or two seasons really have been extremely rushed compared to the slow burn over the first 6 seasons. The show needed more time, the quickness is rubbing fans the wrong way, and Dany's quick jump off the cliff is just the biggest and most recent example of that so it is being focused on. Still love the show, still can't wait for the final episode, but this season has really made me yearn all the more for the final books to get the depth, nuance, and slow-burn that GOT is known for. Also, perhaps the final episode will still have a twist for us. I like the theory that Bran warged into Drogon. Dany was focused on the red keep. She was staring at it intently, going all crazy face. She wasn't going to burn Kings Landing, just Cersei or just the red keep... but then Bran takes over Drogon. The next shot we see is the same dragon shadow we saw in Bran's vision several seasons ago. We never see Dany again, her reactions. In the after-game of thrones, the producers said it was cause they wanted to show the actions from the ground (several times they said that). Even if that's true, it still seems like it's an odd choice not to show Dany screaming in rage mode as she blasts the red keep or even the citizens for at least a second or two. If Bran does take over Drogon, what could Dany do? She can't jump off. She can't yell for help. It's a bit of a stretch for Bran, I'm not Bran anymore, Stark's character, but perhaps less jarring than Dany's quick Mad Queen turn. Perhaps Bran does it as it's the only way that Jon would overthrow Dany and take the throne.
