SCOTUS to see another Obamacare case after the election

Here's the story.

The justices plan to review a federal appeals court decision that found part of the original 2010 Obamacare law unconstitutional and left doubt about the rest of it. President Donald Trump’s administration is urging the court to say that the law, including its protections for people with pre-existing conditions, is invalid.

I've only just begun to consider what Trump's stacking the courts could mean for whatever the next big Healthcare bill passed. Since the GOP seemed to have no interest in even presenting a plan for healthcare, I assume that means the next big healthcare push will come from Democrats, and whatever shape it takes, it's hard to imagine it facing fewer court challenges than the ACA.

How in the world did we end up in a position where half the country has decided that they're ok with dismantling even the most popular parts of a law?
