thewhyteboar Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I started the book the other day, but haven't really done much reading recently. Quote
Moa Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Really fun quirky book, should translate well into a show. Quote

Commissar SFLUFAN Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 That was a VERY entertaining first episode! Quote
Commissar SFLUFAN Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 This show is a fantastic complement to Lovecraft Country and I really do appreciate that Brown doesn't seem that he will be the sole focus of every episode! Quote
Commissar SFLUFAN Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I am REALLY enjoying this show - Taye Diggs's performance as Frederick Douglass) in this past episode was damned hilarious! Quote

Commissar SFLUFAN Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 This was an absolutely FANTASTIC series that I HIGHLY encourage everyone to watch, especially at this present moment. It's practically a moral "call to arms" for our own age as well. Of the three recent series that have addressed the sins of racial injustice of the United States -- Watchmen, Lovecraft Country, and The Good Lord Bird -- I'd have to rank them as follows: 1. The Good Lord Bird 2. Watchmen 3. Lovecraft Country The history lover in me connected more intimately with The Good Lord Bird than the other series, but that's certainly not to suggest that either Watchmen or Lovecraft Country are significantly inferior in any way, shape, or form. What also elevates The Good Lord Bird for me was that everything moved at a reasonably brisk pace with a laser-focused narrative over "only" seven episodes, leaving very little room for unnecessary padding or meandering side plots. And, my God, Ethan Hawke's Old Testament prophet-like performance as John Brown. He absolutely inhabited that role with a righteous fury like no other I've seen in ages. Quote
TheLeon Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 I completely forgot that I’m temporarily subscribed to Showtime via Amazon, so I can actually watch this! Quote
skillzdadirecta Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 How was this show? I always meant to check it out and missed it due to all the Covid crazziness. Gotta add this to the list. Quote

ShreddieMercury Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Thanks for reminding me about this. Ethan Hawke rules, and First Reformed is one of the best movies of the past several years. Quote
