skillzdadirecta Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 For the first time in decades Quote Federal agencies will receive $25 million from Congress to study gun violence in a government spending deal reached by House and Senate negotiators — a major win for Democrats who have long pushed for dedicated funding to research the issue, a source told The Hill. "Democrats have broken the ban on funding for the first time in decades," the source said. The deal includes $12.5 million each for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Institutes of Health to study gun violence and ways to prevent it. The NRA has successfully prevented this type of research for YEARS. 1 1 Quote
b_m_b_m_b_m Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 I place odds Trump vetos, as he is a wildcard, but the Senate wouldn't do anything without his blessing Quote
TwinIon Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 It's not much, but it's something. Still, I have a hard time imagining that real problem on this issue is that we don't have enough science. I'm always in favor of more science, but if decades worth of scientific consensus isn't enough to convince the GOP on climate change or vaccines, I don't suspect a pair of studies will move the needle on gun control. b_m_b_m_b_m Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Once the Senate and House appropriations are agreed to and voted on, they are sent to the president for signature or veto. https://www.senate.gov/legislative/bills_acts_laws.htm Quote

Mr.Vic20 Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 I honestly first read this thread's title as "Congress reaches deal to fund gun violence" and I thought, why is this news worthy? Quote
Bloodporne Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Why don't they just pay me that cash and I tell them approximately 8 seconds later that maybe unloading a trillion guns per year onto a general population is indeed not necessarily a hot idea. Problem solved! Quote
