Yeah, it turns out that having pretend money only really works if people believe the money is worth anything (all money is pretend). Without government intervention, with our modern fiat currency, we would be living in Mad Max. I remember when crypto bros were complaining about a bank going under would tank the value of their coin, and I thought "oh, I thought the whole point of this endeavor was to be above that kind of thing."
