After the unexpected treasure that was Signalis, I'm gonna keep my eye on this one!

I forgot if we had a topic or anything on this:

A psychological survival horror game set in an eerie, isolated 90’s Polish town consumed by an ominous presence. You’ve come looking for answers, but...

Make sure to check out the actual images, the art style is fantastic. It's kind of modern PS1-ish like Signalis but a different spin. This is the one I really hope turns out good.

I think Echoes of the Living looks interesting. It looks simultaneously really impressive in some ways -zombie getting both legs blown off with a shotgun but still reaches as it thuds to the ground, creepy and not janky looking- and hilariously jank in others, like the horrifically terrible animation when a zombie bites the player.

I do love the retro renaissance in horror these days. Fixed angle shots evoke voyeurism, confounding with the stiff controls that these games have evoke a frustration that has been rare since Frictional took the stage with the first person camera. Rather than the unseen, it's the uncomfortable expectation of the camera angle that does the spooks.

I' glad we have these as well. I'm attempting to beat RE0 and REmake. Kinda miss that style of game.

The way RE1 Remake goes full Hitchcock with the camera is masterful. It's baffling to me that people see this as some archaic nuissance rather than an artistic choice.

I love Resident Evil as much as anyone else, I think. But the camera angles requiring shitty ass tank controls was never a compromise I found to be worth the tradeoff. That doesn't mean I won't play games like this, but man I wish they'd figure out a better way to keep the player in control. Even when you "master" them it still looks like a clunky idiot is playing the game. Even speedruns look hilariously shitty. I feel like if they were willing to make the controls slightly more complex (like a modifier key for turn speed rather than just a quick 180 button) then it might be a little more tolerable, but frankly I think it'd be better to scrap those entirely and come up with something new.

The camera angles are great, even if Silent Hill managed to do better ones with a real-time camera.

I'm always torn, because I definitely lean on the side of "I think this makes the game overall worse" but I also don't want to see it gone, which is why I want better controls. If it's tank controls or nothing I guess I'll take tank controls on occasion, but those camera angles better be goddamn masterwork level and not just used to hide a bunch of off-screen enemies every single room.

Honestly I feel like it might be neat if it was hard-set camera angles for exploration, but as soon as you gear near enemies and raise your weapon, maybe you get an over-the-shoulder or first-person view or something? Honestly hard to even speculate as it sounds like something that would require a ton of prototyping and playtesting to make it not annoying or jarring.
