FTC sues Nvidia to preserve Arm’s status as “Switzerland” of semiconductors

It's worth noting that the regulators in both the UK and EU have expressed serious reservations about the deal.

The deal has been widely expected to fall apart after facing opposition in the chip industry. UK regulators said last month that they would launch an in-depth probe of the deal, and it is also under scrutiny in the European Union.

I'd say that it's all but officially scuttled at this point.

Is this something that would make the cost of GPUs finally go down?

Completely unrelated. That's more caused by a simple raw material and capacity shortage. More and more silicon is getting sold every day, capacity isn't keeping up, and COVID continues to fuck with the supply chain at every level.

Either way, I approve. ARM should not be owned by anyone selling their own chips.

EU antitrust regulators have temporarily halted their investigation into Nvidia's (NVDA.O) bid for British chip designer ARM, the largest ever chip deal, as they await more information, according to a European Commission filing.

The European Commission stopped the clock on its previous deadline on Nov. 25. Such delays have been common since the COVID-19 pandemic as companies try to gather data from customers struggling with lockdown restrictions and staff shortages.
