General Gaming AMD needs frame generation so consoles can have it.

How so? People on the Flight Sim forums were freaking out about artifacts claimed by a single user there, so I played for an hour to see if I noticed any (I didn’t) I have zero artifacts in Plague Tale Requiem as well, and I’ve been actively looking for them. There’s been a lot of hyperbole about the AI Frame Gen causing bad IQ and distortions all over reddit and social media. Maybe my 4090 is just special, though. -

It’s all theoretical, including your statements. The very post you replied to stated “theoretically” and filled with notions of “future versions” and the word “may”, and was wondering if this would improve much like DLSS did. What isn’t a typical use case? -

Reducing how often there are AI generated frames is what would theoretically mitigate that -

Wen artifact? -
@Mr.Vic20 @stepee if you force vsync in the nvidia control panel, it works with frame generation. Also, Plague Tale Requiem definitely has frame generation, I think that I didn’t have that previously mentioned windows setting enabled when I first checked the graphics settings, now I have the option below DLSS modes. So, no more screen tearing. Also, I don’t know about you guys, but I haven’t been getting any of the artifacts (beyond the screen tearing that I mentioned prior to the vsync fix) some people seem to be harping on.

@Mr.Vic20because I’m an absolute degenerate, I began looking at Intel 13th gen and AM5 compatible motherboards, to my dismay it seems that manufacturers are starting to make SATA not a thing. Most of the high-end boards only have 4x SATA ports (some, just 2) and only the highest end ones have 6. My current board for my Ryzen 5900x is high-end, but not one of those insane $1k motherboards, and has 8x SATA ports. Very annoying for data hoarders like myself

Yea, every third frame could be AI generated. Why not? How is that worse than the current every other frame? If anything, I’d imagine the reduced frequency of AI generated frames would lessen artifacts/lag. ||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x||x | = “real frames”, there are 40 x = AI generated frames, there are 20 -

I think we’re at the equivalent of DLSS 1.0 with the current frame generation tech, so, theoretically and hopefully it only improves. I don’t think bumping 30 to 60 could ever be realistic, but 30 to 45, or, better yet, 40 to 60 (1.5x boosts) as the tech improves may be very doable without noticeable artifacting or input issues. -
It’s annoying that these cards only have a single HDMI 2.1 port. ASUS cards have a second 2.1 port somehow (probably one of the reasons they were the first to sell out ). Is displayport 2 available yet? IIRC it allows for 10k 60hz or even two 4k 144hz displays running HDR at 30bpc off of a single cable with zero compression. DP1.4 maxes at 4k 120hz 8bpc HDR unless you enable compression which allows 144hz (but hurts image quality - my monitor is 1.4 and the 144hz mode is kinda meh with text vs no-compression, so I never use it) EDIT: jfc it’s been available since about fall of 2019 and DP2.1 became available this past week. The new Intel Arc video cards are the first (and only) cards to have DP2.0… and there’s ZERO monitors that use it. WTF? I guess everyone is too focused on HDMI 2.1.

I think there’s more to it. Before they talked about frame generation in the unveil, they noted that 3.0 offered a 25-30% improvement over 2.0. In Flight Simulator and Spider-Man, frame generation is a separate option from DLSS. -

Well, just like DLSS2 vs 1 vs 1.3, etc, in games, the setting is just labeled as “DLSS”. According to nVidia, if a game has DLSS3 and you have a 2000 or 3000 RTX card, you still benefit as it’ll “automatically” use 2.0 for you.
