So I'm about half-way through the game. It's fun. It's not winning any awards or anything, but it's fun and at the end of the day that's all that matters to me. It's stylized front to back how you'd expect a NMH game to be. More than anything it makes me wish that something comes from this and they rerelease NMH 1 & 2 for Switch. My kids were too young the first time around, but now they'd love 'em. While the trailers made Travis Strikes Back seem like a mini-game compilation, that's not really the case. You have a video game system, the Death Drive MkII, that pulls your consciousness into the game you're playing. Each level of Travis Strikes Back is another title ("Death Ball") that you've acquired for the DDMkII. You need to beat them all because reasons (Bad Girl's dad wants revenge on Travis but is working with him and there's a mystery assassin guy too but let's play video games first because I don't know it's a Suda game..). Each "game" is thematically different from the others (an action game, a mystery game, an RPG, etc.), but underneath the intro and level design they are all the same, Gauntlet-style gameplay (albeit with fewer enemies, generally). It's an overhead hack'n'slash. Think Gauntlet with cool abilities and challenging end-bosses to each level and you're getting there. And the endbosses are, so far, all pretty fun and the kind of head-cases you expect from No More Heroes bosses. After you beat each title you can trigger a text-based story sequence where you acquire the next game for the DDMkII. Acquire and beat all the games and you..beat..the game. o_0 It's goofy, it's engaging, and it makes you want to keep going to see what's next. The hack-n-slash can get tedious when there are long sequences with no breaks, but the payoff is usually worth it. It's a hard game to recommend because it's not really designed for anyone. No More Heroes trappings, Suda51 "storytelling", and Gauntlet-style gameplay. If that sounds fun to you (it is to me) then there are worse ways to spend $30.

Yeah, if you have to announce a delay that's the way to do it. The whole time I'm watching that video, instead of being upset about the delay I'm all, "Aww..it's OK buddy. We understand." Culturally speaking, the Japanese seem amazing at apologizing. :P

Nope. I don't know that a studio was ever officially announced as the developer. I know there were rumors that Bandai-Namco had partnered with Nintendo on it, but I can't find any official word on the matter. What SFLUFAN said.

@Keyser_Soze So have you gotten a feel for how aggressive the monetization is? Do you feel you can make reasonable progress or is the gating bad?

tl;dw Game wasn't going the way they wanted. They're throwing out everything they've developed to this point and are starting again from scratch. They've brought Retro Studios on board. They're super sorry for the delay.

You should've! As the competition goes on the bets get bigger and people start making risky wagers in a bid to catch up. In past MGT seasons I've seen people go worst to first in the last few weeks. I've also see people who were in the top5 all year finish near the bottom!

-= PRO-BOWL BYE WEEK =- This is Year 8 of the MGT (with a break here and there). The first Mock Gambling Thread competition was run by Slug on the IGN Football board for the 2010-11 NFL season. It was inspired by a similar competition run by the community on a St. Louis Rams fan message board. Slug (after making an account on the Rams board to talk shit ahead of a Rams vs Redskins game) enjoyed competing in it so much that he thought it'd be fun to run it for his pals on IGN, and now D1P! ## 2018-19 MGT Season Fun Facts ## thewhyteboar wore the crown more than any other player, taking first place 5 times over the course of the season! The average success rate of MGT competitors betting on the Feature Game each week this season was 45.2%! Don't quit your day jobs! Week 15 was the only week to see a 100% result for all players on Feature Game Bets; every player lost betting against the Chargers! Posed 18 times (every week, minus Thanksgiving and the Conference Round) to 13 players, there were 234 potential opportunities for the Bonus for picking all 3 games on Question #5 correctly to be handed out. It was only awarded 22 times!
