  1. When the public sector gets back to providing close to the service levels the provided pre-pandemic, despite employing 9.4% more people than it did, I will continue to make fun of their productivity.
  2. 1) Canada spent significantly more than any other country on CERB and other actions. How about doing what most European countries did? It's not a binary decision. Canada's household income increased 11% in Q2 2000 while the benefits were being dolled out (vs. a 10% shrinkage in the economy) In 2020, Canada's deficit was 19.9% of GDP (the highest among the 35 richest countries). It was double that of Germany, and triple that of Ireland and Sweden. There is something in between families going bankrupt, and their incomes going up 11% due to government funding. 2) Ontario and Quebec's closures were among the longest in the world. Toronto lockdown - one of the world's longest? WWW.BBC.COM What is the effect of one of the longest pandemic indoor-dining bans in the world? 3) We continued to close schools after it became abundantly clear that children rarely became seriously ill, rather than targeting protections towards the people that did get seriously ill. 4) As the father of 3 school age children, who were forced into "at-home" schooling for the better part of 2 full years, with cancellation of outdoor sports, etc. -- I can confirm that it has had a significant developmental impact on my kids.
  3. Federal employees get 4 weeks of paid vacation after 3-years, and 5-weeks after 15. I don't think they have a shortage of vacation.
  4. Given the bureaucracy's multiple failures at this point, their time would probably be better served at work rather than mourning the monarch.
  5. You're right. I've got an alternate take.... The Broncos lost the game because they fumbled twice inside the 5-yard line. I go for it with Russell on 4th and 5 too, but it's probably only got a 30% shot at winning from that situation?
  6. COVID-19 and the unseen pandemic of child abuse BMJPAEDSOPEN.BMJ.COM For children, the collateral damage of the COVID-19 pandemic response has been considerable: ‘nearly insurmountable’ educational losses,1 deteriorating mental health,2 low routine childhood vaccination rates,3 39 billion missed school meals by January 20214 and millions of estimated life-years lost among students in the USA alone.5 It is difficult to deny the harmful impact of lockdowns on children, who are society’s most...
  7. ANALYSIS | Majority of Canadians have now caught COVID — so what does that mean for the future? | CBC News WWW.CBC.CA The majority of Canadians have caught COVID-19 since Omicron and its highly contagious subvariants triggered enormous waves of infection this year — with new estimates suggesting almost two-thirds of the population have had it. Wastewater data shows we're coming out of the Ba.4/BA.5 wave -- despite limited interventions/mandates, Ontario ICU usage didn't even rise high enough to trigger the daily reporting threshold (150 people in ICU).
  8. Week 2 Feature Game Minnesota Vikings $800 QUESTIONS 1) Vikings TD 2) Vikings 3) Tied 4) Packers 5) New England, Las Vegas, Tampa Bay 6) Under 7) Lowest: NY Jets, Highest: KC Chiefs 8) Jonathan Taylor, Davante Adams
  9. They've been talking like he is an elite QB. And he is a good QB, but IMHO, not anywhere in the league of Brady/Rodgers/Mahomes/Herbert/Allen. And he's 33, and a big part of his game has been scrambling...
  10. My recollection was we weren't allowed to talk about getting ROMs here.
  11. There are ways of getting console games running on a Linux PC, but I believe the rule about not discussing these things on D1P still stands. A google search can probably help you though.

  13. Takeaways from Raiders Week 1: 1) Derek Carr played one of his worst games in several seasons. I don't know how much of this is real (i.e. he has looked better because of coaching), or whether it was just a bad game. 2) Davante Adams is an incredible receiver 3) Raiders O-Line and pass defence were terrible in the first half, but looked much better in the second half. 4) I think the Raiders were the better team in the second half. With all of the interceptions and sacks in the game, the one positive is -- Raiders were within one score against a team some have picked to be one of the league's best teams.
  14. Josh Allen is 6’5” and 240 lbs. That is a big part of why he is good at football. Fuck. He is good at this.
  15. I’m going out on a limb here. The Buffalo defence is pretty good.
