  1. Heh, I just installed zoom on my daughter's iPad and my wife's Macbook so my daughter could attend her class remotely while the schools are shut down.
  2. YMMV. Everytime I have to interact with a post office, it's anything but pleasant. The workers are never helpful: I had to send a letter via certified mail, so I grapped a priority mail envelope and put the letter in there, and I was told I couldn't use that envelope to do certified mail, but they didn't tell me what I should use. I ended up sending in priority anyways and it cost $24 . The next time I had to send a letter, I just put it in a regular large envelope and it cost $4. My interactions with UPS and Fed Ex are generally positive.
  3. We actually had abandon ship drills. Reactor department was supposed to stay onboard as long as possible, and possibly go down with the ship (if it were sinking). Our orders were to shut down the reactors and start destroying all confidential/classified material. So even if they evacuated this carrier, the reactor department (around 400 sailors) would stay aboard tending to the reactor plant.
  4. Some have attributed their decline to being led by finance/business oriented CEOs, and not engineering CEOs.
  5. At this point, that's a good goal. If we were proactive starting in February, this would be a worst case scenario. Now it's a best case.
  6. Exactly. Now you are going to have a bunch of people use this study to argue we need to "reopen America" now.
  7. Even though gas is cheaper now, no one will be able to afford new 9 mpg SUVs. So, no harm, no foul!
  8. tl;dr: Did that study only look at coronavirus, or did it also look at the corresponding deaths due to not being able to treat everyone? By that I mean, if a hospital is completely full of coronavirus patients with limited medical staff, does it take into account heart attack victims who simply were unable to be saved because of the pandemic?
  9. Trump would never be able to kill his arch enemy's parents, and then feed his enemy's parents to his enemy in form of chili.
  10. Fair enough Edit: I guess my point is that people would rather at least have the option of protecting themselves, than "roll over and take it".
  11. Unemployment is likely to reach 30% - which is above what was experience at the height of the great depression. People are going to become desperate - I have no doubt that home break-ins will become more common over the next few months.
  12. Well, if your neighborhood has gone to shit it might be kind of comforting to be able to purchase a gun to protect yourself, especially if the police are effectively incapacitated as well.
  13. I mean, you sort of have to in states that require you to use gun stores to transfer guns from one person to another - otherwise you eliminate the ability for a person to legally acquire a gun.
  14. Aircraft carriers, along with all other Navy ships, are a prime breeding ground for this. You have up to 200 people in one berthing area, sleeping only feet away from each other. Everyone shares a limited number of showers, toilets, and excercise facilities. On my carrier back in 2007, we had an outbreak of sickness from contaminated potable water tanks. It basically crippled the ship for over a week - over half of the ship ended up getting sick (puking, diarrhea, fever). It got to the point where if you were scheduled to stand watch but you were sick, you still had to stand watch because anyone that could've replaced you was also sick. I was shitting and puking into the same bucket while standing watch in the engine room at one point. Good times.
  15. I'm glad that some insurance companies are waiving copays and whatnot for coronavirus, but if you don't have insurance in the first place because you lost your job, then you are kind of shit out of luck. I'm sure (and hope) that this pandemic will accelerate the timeline for universal healthcare - whether that means a public option or single payer.
  16. Can Governor Cuomo please deliver daily updates for the nation as well? Would be so much more informative and comforting than having Trump spew shit from his mouth.
  17. This is what should be done honestly. Yeah it makes it harder to shop, but everything is harder now.
  18. I'm just glad the President is listening (or appears to be) to Fauci and Birx at this time. He wants to get reelected, and I think he realizes that isn't probable if 2 million people die from this virus.
  19. Prediction: Trump will continue to fuck up the coronavirus response, 200,000 Americans will die because of it. Trump, Sanders, and Biden will catch the virus - Sanders and Biden will die from it, but somehow Trump survives and becomes stronger. Trump wins by default in November. Oh and RBG gets down with the sickness as well. Sorry!
  20. We've used Amazon Prime Pantry a few times so far. Not a bad service. We are getting another prime delivery sometime tonight between 9 and 11 pm.
  21. Humana and Cigna will be waiving copays and coinsurance for coronavirus treatment. As we've discussed before, inusrance rates are going to get jacked up like crazy next year.
