The people we bought our new house from will likely be laid off from their job at one of the casinos here in Vegas. They were even having a new home being built right now. Supposedly they will be able to back out of the contract and get their deposit back, which is good I guess. Plus they'll have some equity to live off of from the sale of the house for awhile.

If you are going to hand out money, give it to everyone. Don't means test it. That just inroduces ineficiences. If you get it and you don't need it - donate it to someone who can get more use out of it. Make it a tax write off in fact.
