  1. Hmm I'm on post and while I love the look and feel (though obviously there are only 50,000 on it right now)...can I not search for anything but usernames? Can't even find how to search hashtags.
  2. Yeah, Post seems like an interesting potential alternative, assuming they can actually scale up. It seems like a small team and honestly, most of these alternatives don't really have an easy way to monetize.
  3. Bloomberg - Are you a robot? WWW.BLOOMBERG.COM Twitter Loses Entire Brussels Office With Regulators Looming No way Twitter (assuming it is still afloat) manages to maintain compliance with EU data laws.
  4. Okay I finally read this "article," if you can call it that—there is nothing in it that says making food at home is more expensive than eating out. All it says is that the inflation on grocery items has risen faster in the past year than inflation on restaurant prices...but doesn't list absolute prices. That's because restaurant prices are still higher!
  5. San Francisco police seek permission for its robots to use deadly force | Engadget WWW.ENGADGET.COM The San Francisco Police Department is currently petitioning the city's Board of Supervisors for permission to deploy robots to kill suspects based on whether an officer feels threatened.. 7. People like to talk about the snowflake generation...but I haven't ever seen examples of no-score sports (except at really young ages where it's not even really structured sport), trophies for everyone, etc. I think it's something that's blown out of proportion as part of the right-wing culture war.
  8. The study didn't have anything to do with the snowflake theory you are pushing (which I don't believe has any credibility, as, after all, it's the exact same theory peddled by Boomers about both Gen-X and Millennials...and every generation before), but about the lack of independence to make decisions, most importantly things like deciding what they want to do for an entire Saturday (and the ability to leave the house, etc).
  9. I don't have the link handy, but I read an interesting study a few days ago that actually put more focus on the decline in child autonomy as being the major cause of mental health issues in the last 30 years, rather than internet/social media use. It didn't discount that those things could have an effect on kids, but rather that it's been the loss of agency within their own lives (manifested in a number of ways, such as decline of unstructured time they can control the use of, decline in ability to walk/travel outside the home by themselves, etc) that is the primary driver of these issues. Effectively, kids feel less in control of their own lives and future, and therefore feel worse about their lives.
  10. Much of Moldova without power after Russian strikes on Ukraine - deputy PM WWW.REUTERS.COM Russian missile strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure caused blackouts across half of neighbouring Moldova, the deputy prime minister of Moldova said on Wednesday.
  11. Another wave of cruise missile strikes from Russia overnight. Most were intercepted, but some made it through. Power is currently out in Kyiv and Lviv. One missile yesterday hit a maternity ward, killing a mother and her newborn.
