McGahn was subpoenaed last month by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., for testimony and documents as part the panel's investigation into possible obstruction of justice by the president and others. But in a letter to Nadler Tuesday, Cipollone wrote that such documents “remain legally protected from disclosure under longstanding constitutional principles, because they implicate significant Executive Branch confidentiality interests and executive privilege.”

Reputator
Trump's appointee has declared that Trump has committed no obstruction. Why can't Democrats just drop it???

As I understand it no because he waived executive privilege when he originally spoke to the Special Counsel's investigation. Anything related to that is also fair game. The White House is actually arguably committing a crime by telling people to ignore their subpoenas and not show up for Congressional hearings. This is the exact same shit that fed into one of Nixon's articles of impeachment being obstruction of justice..
