Didn't Microsoft buy Minecraft for $2.5 Billion? I was wondering why they would release it on other systems when it could be a X-Box exclusive?

Because they know they can make more money with Minecraft staying non-exclusive, and don't want to have people that purchased the game feel cheated out of the game.  You know, being pro-consumer,  unlike Sony.

Yes. It was releasing on other platforms already. Plus, it’s target demographic is completely different to Xbox’s.

All of the the decisions are motivated by money.

MS/Nintendo are trying to mitigate their smaller user bases.  Sony is trying to take advantage of its much larger user base.

Most for profit companies make most of their decisions based on money.  However they don't have to be jerks with anti consumer policies.  Most Xbox/Nintendo fans can at least recognize when the company they are a fan of does something dumb.  It is a little surprising that you are the lone voice that I have seen anywhere that is standing up for Sony on this policy.  It is bad for everyone involved and the gaming community would all be better if Sony would simply change the policy.  Sony would still be the big dog - they don't somehow lose their market share if they allow people to play together, or keep their progression.
