Commissar SFLUFAN
Uh-huh. Sure. Best of luck, guys! Has anyone who says that the want to adapt Blood Meridian actually read the book?!?! Because anyone who has read the book knows that there's absolutely no way in hell that it's adaptable.

But it’s a book I’ve heard of, so therefore it’s a valuable brand that can can be exploited.
thewhyteboar
Gimme a script by Paul Schrader and summon the spirit of a half-sober Sam Peckinpah and then you'll have a project I'll get excited about.
Greatoneshere
We already have a thread on Blood Meridian, and I think John Logan and John Hillcoat are a great pair to pull this off. People told Hillcoat The Road was unfilmable and he did as good a job as one can with that, so hopefully the same happens here. ShreddieMercury
I think I would only trust the Coen Brothers with an adaptation given how effectively they understand and are able to transmit what is transcendent about McCarthy's writing. No Country For Old Men is the best adaption of his work, and one of the century's best movies. That said, while Blood Meridian is my all time favorite book, I've said before here that I cannot see how this is adaptable in any way that retains the power of the novel. It is biblical and cosmic in a way that is impossible to translate to film. I've read the Steve Tesich script from 1995, which is interesting, but it convinced me that this is simply not possible, unless liberties are taken and it's essentially a completely different approach to the story. But I also think that would likely lead to disappointment.
