Ironically their absolute obsession with "identity politics" has, at least in some way, forced these topics to be addressed far sooner than they would have been otherwise. The ol' Streisand Effect. But of course since it's the GOP, we can't just have a leapfrog where we get to the good part, there has to be incalculable human suffering first before they realize they can't fucking win because they can never fucking win for more than a few years and give up and then it's time to be outraged about something else.
