Embracer bought Tomb Raider for $300M in 2022. Pretty good piece of business there.
Mr.Vic20
Anything is possible, but this feels like the start of a grand set of announcements that results in a lot of developer apologies in the future that start with: "We know Tomb Raider fans passion for the series is rivaled only by our own creative team's excitement to be at the helm of such a venerable staple of entertainment ! we've heard your concerns loud and clear and we're working hard to make this the best [insert game/movie/audio cassette] yet! Rest assured that a ship load of amazing content is heading your way soon! As we go on this incredible journey together, we'll keep listen to and engaging with this this fantastic community!" Or some such apology/not apology update as the series slides more and more sideways with each misstep. See Halo/343 Studios for details... SuperSpreader
lol I don't know why Amazon wants to get into games so bad. They are clearly not doing well at it. (It's Amazon leadership.)
Commissar SFLUFAN
The "$600 million" amount has only been reported by this source, LotR/Hobbit fan site: Warner Bros. Exit Talks Begin For ‘The Lord of the Rings’ & ‘The Hobbit’ Franchises (Exclusive) – Fellowship of Fans FELLOWSHIPOFFANS.COM Not exactly Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, or some other entertainment industry source, so I'm calling "bullshit" on this one for now. Also, the $600 million amount represents a "package" which implies that it encompasses the acquisition of the IP from Embracer, the development budget for the Crystal Dynamics game project, the production costs of the movies, TV shows, etc. Thus, it's not that Amazon paid Embracer $600 million for the IP.
