I’m at a point now where I’m not exactly thriving, but I’m more or less stable. For example, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to save enough to put a down payment on a house/condo, but I’ve saved enough that when my car started acting up this weekend and I needed to drop a thousand dollars on maintenance/repairs, it wasn’t the end of the world.

They describe the way a british bulldog breathes (unfortunately the way they are bred causes difficulty) as if they are breathing through a straw. That’s what it’s like when you are dealing with financial instability.  If you are lucky enough to hit a point of being financially stable, it’s like someone removed the straw.

Improving yearly, but for the foreseeable, I’ll always feel like I’m short of cash and either have to decline a lot, or accept that none of my money will be spent on myself (exclusively). I’m fine with all of this though.

I don't worry about paying any of my necessities and I pretty much buy whatever I want. I still have a healthy chunk in savings if I ever have a big emergency. Aside from the markets being crap now, my retirement outlook is good. My 30 year mortgage will be paid off in year 9(next year). I have no other debts.
