'The Exorcist' Adds Ann Dowd To Universal Blumhouse Sequel

Didn't know this was happening and that it’s a sequel. Be interesting because the highly underrated tv series from a couple years ago was a direct sequel to the first movie. They kept changing the time it was on tv and only saw I think 4-6 episodes and they were a slow burning, creepy atmospheric but really really good. Should see if it’s on Disney+ in Canada because it was a fox series (think produced as well) Either way, if you like the first movie, go watch the series.

Can someone comment already so I'm not, as always, the first one to trash this?

Me posting on here half the time

Director David Gordon Green doesn't always hit it out of the park, but he's a pretty good director. I haven't seen his Halloween movies yet, but movies like Snow Angels, George Washington, All The Real Girls, Undertow, Pineapple Express, Joe, Prince Avalanche, and Strong are all great movies. I grant Your Highness, The Sitter, Manglehorn, and Our Brand Is Crisis were just okay to bad, but when you've made 12 films (pre-Halloween movies), 4 bad ones to 8 good to great ones is a pretty good ratio. He also directed some of the best episodes of TV shows Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones. He obviously works with Jody Hill (wrote and directed The Foot Fist Way and Observe and Report) and Danny McBride a lot.

Also, I didn't realize we've had 5 Exorcist movies as well as a 2 season, 10-episode TV show from 2016. I don't know much about the show, but the only good movies are the first and third. The third movie ignores the second, and the 4th and 5th movies are prequels (well, one prequel made twice) and the show ignores all the movies except the first. So ignoring all the movies again except the first for David Gordon Green's films make sense since that's what the third film and TV show both did.

I really dislike his Halloween movie. I know I'm in the vast minority with that but that's mainly what I'm basing my eye roll reaction on.

Exorcist 3 is actually amazing and brutally underrated in my opinion. George C Scott and Brad Dourif just kill it so hard in that.

Did you see both of his Halloween movies or just the first one? Just to make sure. And agreed about Exorcist III for sure.

Just the first one and it's one of those movies where I was actively surprised to see that people loved it, or even thought that it was a good movie on any level. I'm deeply allergic to fan service in films like that because I tend to love the originals for how unique they were, not for the comic book-ish "universe" later surrounding it. Like the studio meddling turning Pinhead into this big thing when really the only film and story in that universe worth a shit is the original, which doesn't even acknowledge him as a standout character like that. Rant over and it might not even make sense. Green's Halloween flick firmly stands in the realm of grating Michael Myers fan service to me. Coherent tone, plot or anything else really be damned. He even rehashed entire shot sequences from the original.

And I know I'm way in the minority in that opinion but yeah, Mr. Pedant was not pleased at all and he's not pleased to find out we now get this because Halloween made money. But also, I'd GLADLY eat crow on that because lord knows Exorcist could use a not-shit movie if they won't just leave it alone. I saw those mid-2000s ones (one?) in the theater...yuck.

The second Green Halloween movie ABSOLUTELY sucked. Like big time.

Yeah, it seems that is in the minority as his first Halloween film is well rated across the board and did well commercially, but you make sense. It seems his second Halloween movie was considered average to bad across the board, however. Guess we'll see how Halloween Ends shakes out.

My friend, who kinda disliked the first one but liked it more than I did, saw the second one and said it was "just garbage". We have very similar tastes so I didn't even bother.

George is so fucking unhinged in that movie. There are scenes where he is straight up losing his shit and every other actor is just  oblivious to it.

"IT IS NOT IN THE FILE,IT IS NOT!!"

It works beautifully. He sells the shit out of how I imagine someone would feel in the face of this.
