Stillwater Official Trailer

Recommended Posts

It's co-written and directed by Tom McCarthy, who recently gave us the truly wonderful Spotlight. This guy has had such an interesting career that I don't think has been getting enough attention given the caliber of the films he's made. He solely wrote and directed three really good indie films (rather, I found them to be really good when I saw them at the times they came out) with The Station Agent, The Visitor, and Win Win. All three are great movies in small, personal drama film type ways. Yes, he did then co-write and direct The Cobbler, not sure what the fuck happened there, but then he immediately redeemed himself with Spotlight. I found that movie really compelling, Mark Ruffalo in particular (though everyone is great in it). He even solely wrote Million Dollar Arm, which for a PG-rated Disney sports movie was pretty good. He's only done another kids movie since Spotlight, co-writing and directing Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made which I haven't seen but heard solid things about.

So yeah, I'm in for an adult McCarthy drama.

Spotlight is one of those movies that is sneakily incredible. Like, I know it reviewed well and won awards (including the Best Picture Oscar) and all that, but it easily could have been one of those boring, Important Films About A Serious Thing that is forgotten two months after it comes out. But it’s a very compelling, satisfying movie that is oddly rewatchable.

I've never even heard of Tom McCarthy or any of those movies you listed @Greatoneshere but the trailer looks like Taken: Gritty Edition...and I actually kind of want to see that somehow.

I definitely recommend you check them out when you want personal indie dramas done really well. Except for Spotlight - you should go watch that ASAP.

Huh interesting...I somehow totally missed that one. The name doesn't even ring a bell. Will look it up now.

A good old fashioned Euro trash "GIVE ME BACK MY DAUGHTER" movie, can't wait to catch it when I'm tired and/or drunk at 2am.

Seriously though, McCarthy is good, but like the "you sound so American," "GOOD, because I am!" line basically sums up the whole trailer.
