  1. here's the messaging. Stonewall as best you can, refuse to meet her, make a fucking stink in the press, insist that there be covid relief before you talk to her. Do something even if you lose
  2. Why, you ask, am I so pessimistic about congressional Dems? Their only redeeming feature is that they are not the Republican party which is so, so, so much worse and actively hurtful We're going to have a 6-3, 9 member court (and best case) until thomas dies and then we're merely going back to 5-4. Congrats everyone.
  3. Republicans want this, and so do Dems. There's also an obligation to state and local governments and the millions of jobs there that need to be protected, and also the millions more who need enhanced unemployment, both of these items Republicans don't want. So yeah the loss of tens of thousands of jobs is at risk, but so are millions of government jobs and the help for millions of unemployed. You can't keep giving Republicans what they think they want and getting nothing in return! At this point there are two things to remember: democrats didn't get enough in negotiations for the first CARES act (Republicans _strongly needed_ corporate bailouts) and secondly Republicans don't want to help millions of people, so we can't give up the leverage needed in order to help these people. Does it suck that the lives of these people are bargaining chips? Yes, but there's a bigger picture that Republicans have no problem ignoring if leverage is given up.
  4. Focus on the ACA, it polls much better. I have this crazy theory that you should emphasize the popular things to get elected, then do the middling popular things that are good policy to actually lead on an issue.
  5. Our one saving grace is that these people are largely unimpressive, mediocre rich dudes who earned nothing that wasn't given to them and thus are so out of touch with reality they can't keep up the charade because they don't believe it. This largely includes Tucker, though he's a better actor than the rest of them. Tuckers schtick doesn't work in the face of the pandemic either, it's worth noting what he is putting on TV!
  6. Trump isn't a product of populism, he's the inevitable outcome of the indifferent pro-wealthy and overt white supremacist GOP playbook that's been in vogue since Goldwater and the GOP takeover of the Southern white elite.
  7. My straw man is that it boils down to "look at what they're openly saying and doing" vs "there's no way they'd do that"
