US to build giant space vacuum cleaner
mclumber1 replied to CitizenVectron's topic in The Political Re-Education Camp
The dumbest idea I've heard is to just pull it out of the air, compress it until it becomes liquid CO2, and then injecting it into retired oil fields. This seems like a recipe for disaster, as sabotage or failure of the containment would just lead to this CO2 quickly escaping back into the atmosphere. Not only would this cancel out all of the gains you made by pumping millions of tons out of out the atmosphere, it would be extremely hazardous to anyone nearby the leak. Just look at what happened in Africa in the 1980s from a natural release of CO2. Carbon capture all has to include transformation of the carbon into some sort of stable solid, otherwise it's just a waste. -

Update: The professor investigated my concern and agreed that it was plagiarism. In her investigation, she found 2 other instances where this student copy/pasted another student's work for these types of assignments. The student has retroactively been given a zero for all of these assignments, and she has referred them to the University for disciplinary action. -

That's a good point. The message board we use does show when things were posted and edited though. I posted on Sunday and they posted today. -

I'm feeling conflicted. In one of my college courses (yes, I'm 41 and going to college), I noticed that another student word for word copied my own work on our discussion board for an assignment. On one hand, I feel a bit honored that another student plagiarized my work (which was several hours worth of work), but on the other hand, this pretty much meets the textbook definition of plagiarism. I debated whether or not I should, but I ended up sending an email to the professor explaining what I saw. It wasn't a difficult assignment per se (watch Hotel Rwanda and write about leadership), which make me question why this other student copied my work. The assignment isn't technically due until tonight at midnight (3 hours from now), so I suppose the other student still has the chance to edit it to his own words, but still... -

I've worn a tungsten wedding ring since 2009 (so before tungsten was cool). The weight is significant - but it has never scratched, dulled, or otherwise gotten damaged. Tungsten is so hard it is actually brittle though. You could shatter it with a hammer. -

All I know is that, the Democrats have wasted a lot of political capital the last 6 months on the reconciliation deal, only to have both that deal and infrastructure almost get scuttled. They are on the verge of being just as dumb and ineffective as the GOP congress from 2016-2018. I don't think they want to be compared to those losers!
