  1. We have a gun problem because we have socioeconomic problems. We are a lot more like Latin America than we are Canada and Europe when it comes to issues like gang activity, poverty, and corruption. I'm not opposed to certain new gun control legislation, I just don't think it will be the cure-all that some politicians and pundits sell it as.
  2. Effective social and economic policy can be used to reduce these numbers. If thousands of young men are dying each year because of the illegal drug trade, maybe we need to do something about the war on drugs? How many people were dying from the war on alcohol after prohibition was repealed? A lot less than when there was a lucrative black market for alcohol.
  3. Reading through the news stories, they count convenience store robberies the same as El Paso.
  4. I'm glad we agree that the en vogue method of calling something a "mass shooting" is bullshit.
  5. https://www.massshootingtracker.org/data It's difficult to parse through this data, so my statement is conjecture at best.
  6. You fix the tax burden issue by addressing the income tax and capital gains taxes. You don't fix it by spending time and energy on a tax that is unconstitutional and will get overturned in court. I support the idea of a national sales/consumption tax, but I actually doubt it would be constitutional. We are stuck with our current methods of collecting tax money until the Constitution is amended.
  7. Does he (or anyone) need to be connected to that specific group to count his rampage as racially motivated? We don't have to connect the El Paso's shooter's rampage to any specific white nationalist group to see that he did it in the name of white nationalism.
  8. Side thought: If we want to use the bullshit metric of 250 mass shootings this year alone, black people are likely the largest contributor to that statistic. A vast majority of those 250 shootings are happening in ethnic neighborhoods. They aren't carrying out these shootings for the same reasons as true mass shootings (like El Paso and Dayton), and aren't racially motivated, though.
  9. All of you are going to be disappointed when Warren's wealth tax idea is struck down in court. There are arguments that can be made that it is constitutional, but there are also arguments, case law, the 16th amendment, and a conservative Supreme Court that will rule it as unconstitutional. You're going to need an amendment to milk the rich.
  10. Will it though? The amount of material recovered from Epstein's properties is apparently HUGE. There are also dozens if not hundreds of witnesses who can testify against the people who raped and sexually abused them. Will prosecutors be able to get everyone? Probably not. But it was also unlikely if Epstein was still alive.
  11. No! San Diego has been blighted with scooters. Sorry I wasn't more specific. I only mentioned Las Vegas because I was asked if I've ever lived in a big city.
  12. I've lived in Las Vegas for the last 3 months. We were just down in San Diego for the Fourth of July week for vacation and seeing friends/family.
  13. Scooters do make it harder for actual pedestrians on sidewalks to get around. And scooters on the streets make overall traffic less safe. On another note, I recently bought a stock F150 and I think it sits up too high. I've contemplated getting it lowered a few inches, but everyone scoffs at the idea as if it were blasphemy. Its a 2wd truck - it's not as if I'm ever going to take it off road. I don't need to express how much of a man I am by hanging truck nutz from my receiver hitch and have a 10 inch lift.
  14. The only means of communication in the 1790s was with your own voice or an actual, literal, printing press. Electronic methods of communication were not even invented for another ~50 years with telegraph.
  15. No where in the 1st amendment is there a mention computers. I suppose the government could ban porn on everything except printed media.
  16. Sue Gordon, the Deputy DNI, will be leaving the agency the same day as Dan Coats.
  17. Give people a free and easy method of background checks that don't make you go to a FFL and I'll support that.
