I have a dedicated entertainment room with a home theater (big screen TV/surround sound), so why would I want to play video games on a small handheld screen at home if I have the option to play them on a big screen TV with room filling sound? I think that the Switch Lite is a great lower priced option for people who prefer handheld/portable gaming to home TV gaming, but for me gaming is something that I strictly do at home and I like to do it on a big screen TV with surround sound. I admit that I find it a little surprising that Nintendo made a portable only Switch considering that the whole concept of the Switch is that it's a home TV and portable game system in one, the Switch name doesn't make sense with the Lite since you're not switching anything with it. This is what I want since I have no need for the portability function of the Switch. I don't want to pay extra money for something that I'm not going to use, which is what I would be doing if I bought the current Switch.

I thought that he said that the Switch is all that he currently plays games on, but perhaps I misunderstood. The reason why I sometimes do long game lists is to show that there's a lot more out there than just the really big and popular games that a lot of people tend to primarily focus on. The less popular/well known games out there often get forgotten and/or overlooked, so I like to include them on lists of games that I'm sharing to maybe bring them to the attention of people who might be interested in them but perhaps overlooked them or didn't even know that they existed. I sometimes see lists of games that people recommend, and I often come across ones that I forgot about or that I didn't know about. There's a lot of games out there, and it's not always easy to keep up with them all. That's disappointing to hear.

I really enjoyed Human Revolution as well, I even liked the boss fights. I just thought that the first two Deus Ex games were a little better overall. What didn't you like about it that made you stop playing?

@Keyser_Soze I played Deus Ex: Human Revolution on the Xbox 360, and I have Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for the PS4 but I haven't played it yet. I didn't like Human Revolution quite as much as the first two games in the series, but I heard that Mankind Divided is better.

But you don't have much choice but to gravitate more to indie games if you're only gaming on a Switch, because indie games and niche Japanese games are what it primarily has to offer. Any big budget current gen multiplatform games that it has are gimped because it's basically last gen hardware. I have no doubt that you've played big games, but how many somewhat more recent ones have you played? Deus Ex came out nineteen years ago. Last gen and this gen have offered some of the best bigger budget games that I've played. I say bigger budget and not AAA because not every bigger budget game is AAA, but instead games that have bigger budgets than indie games and get released to retail in physical form. Whatever, I've probably been gaming longer and play more games than anyone else here. I played Deus Ex on the PS2, and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed Deus Ex: Invisible War on the Xbox even more. It's one of my favorite games from that generation.

That might be true for you, but it's not for me. Until I actually play a game then I don't really know for sure how it's going to appeal to me, unless it's within a genre that I don't particularly like. There have been times that I thought that a game looked really good in gameplay videos but I ended up disliking it, just as there have been times that I didn't think that a game looked good in gameplay videos and I ended up liking it. While I feel that the Far Cry series has gone downhill a bit after Far Cry 3, I still like it. This discussion is taking place well into the current generation, so I assumed that it's the one that we were discussing.

He stated in this thread that the Switch is the only platform that he games on, therefore he couldn't have experienced most of the current gen big budget games out there beyond maybe playing some of them at his friend's place who he said has a PS4. But if that's enough for him to come to the conclusion that he prefers indie games to big budget ones, then fair enough. Different strokes for different folks.

The point that I was making is how can someone say that they prefer one thing to the other when they haven't even tried the other? I couldn't come to the conclusion that I prefer big budget games to indie games if I haven't played any indie games, or at the very least only played a few that aren't considered some of the better ones. But this is only something that you can come to a conclusion about if you've actually played a good amount of the big budget games out there, which isn't something that you could have done if you only own a Switch. I agree to a certain degree, but based on the type of games that I personally enjoy the most I can say from experience that overall I tend to prefer big budget games to indie games. That's not to say that there aren't some indie games that I enjoy as much if not even more than big budget games, but for the most part big budget games tend to deliver the gaming experiences that do it for me more.

How can you judge big budget retail released games if you only own a Switch? There are definitely indie games that I quite enjoy that aren't old school in look and design as well, but my main gaming interest these days is big budget retail released stuff that offer all the current technology bells and whistles and deep engrossing worlds and content that I can really sink my teeth into for long periods of time.

As a big fan of the Disaster Report series, this has been one of my most anticipated games since it was announced. I'm glad that it's finally coming out in the US next year, but I don't know why it's taking so long since it came out last year in Japan.

I really liked Alpha Protocol, I feel that it's one of the more underrated games to come out last gen. I have a physical copy for Xbox 360, and I plan on playing it again at some point.

While it's not my most hyped game at the moment, I'm still really hyped for it since I'm a big fan of Alan Wake, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy and Second Sight.

I wanted it to go to a better home, no one else has claimed it? It's been years. I did. I like Doom 3 more than Doom 2016 because I'm not really into pure arcade-y twitch shooters these days. When I was a lot younger (teens/20s) I liked fast paced non-stop action games that offered no real reason for what you were doing in them, but these days I prefer games with stories, character development, adventure and RPG elements.

Yeah, they're going to be released in the US. Kiwami 2 came out last year.

I did as well. Based on what I played of it I found it to be a little overrated, but I liked it enough to give it another chance in the future. I also have Dishonored 2, but I haven't played it yet.

I usually prefer female protagonists in video games as well because a lot of the time I find them to be less douche-y than male protagonists, but the ones in Wolfenstein: Youngblood seem like typical male video game protagonists just with female skins. That trailer has turned me off from the game since every non-gameplay moment was cringe-worthy, and I couldn't endure that throughout the entire length of the game despite it probably having fun gameplay. I personally like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein (2009) more than the current gen Wolfenstein games. Have you played them? The current gen ones are good, but I don't like them quite as much as others do.

Syndicate is a blast. Jacob and Evie are a couple of my favorite video game protagonists, and need their own spinoff game series as far as I'm concerned. I especially like Evie, she's a freakin' ninja that's lethal with a cane-sword. The grappling hook adds a lot to the experience as well. I think that it's one of the best games in the AC series, and is underrated IMO.

I'm playing Assassin's Creed: Origins now, and I'm curious to hear what you think of the earlier AC games since Origins is quite a big departure from them. Other than for their settings and time periods, they're all basically the same game. Origins is more akin to something like Horizon Zero Dawn, a big sprawling open world action adventure game with RPG elements. It includes a lot of mechanics and staples from the previous AC games, but improves upon everything quite substantially especially the combat. The previous games (except for Syndicate) focused primarily on stealth, and had fairly basic combat systems for that reason. Syndicate changed that, and Origins takes it even further with brutal and visceral combat with lots of weapons and skills to unlock. As much as I like the previous AC games, Origins is shaping up to be the best that I've played in the series because everything about it is bigger and better IMO.

The following is how I rank the Assassin's Creed games that I've played: 1. Assassin's Creed II 2. Brotherhood 3. Syndicate 4. Black Flag 5. Assassin's Creed III 6. Unity 7. Revelations 8. Assassin's Creed I haven't played Origins or Odyssey yet, but I plan to this year.

Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy are less spectacle-first games like the original trilogy, but of course still include those elements so if you didn't like the first three games then you probably won't like the latest ones either. As for The Last of Us, if it doesn't sound like your thing then you probably shouldn't play it. Not every game is for everyone.

Have you played Uncharted 4? I feel that its gameplay is better than the previous games. It's the best game in the series IMO. As for The Last of Us, it's admittedly a more narrative driven experience than a gameplay driven one, but the gameplay is still solid IMO. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel in terms of shooting and stealth mechanics, its overall gameplay is still more than just serviceable enough to push the story along.

@Bloodporne It's nice to see someone else who appreciates this game as much as I do, and for all the same reasons. It's a great first person horror survival game with unique aspects, and it's a shame that it's so overlooked and underappreciated. I bought a European physical copy (it's digital only in the US) for $19.99, and I would have easily paid more for it. It's one of my favorite games this gen.

The Last of Us is a completely different game than the Uncharted games. It's an M rated horror survival game that's extremely dark in tone, and pushes the envelope in terms of video game content. While the core game itself doesn't really standout from a gameplay perspective as it's mostly cover shooting and stealth, the mechanics are solid and do allow for some strategy at times. As an overall gaming experience, it's one of the best that I've played. The story, characters and things that happen throughout aren't usual video game fare. Anyone who likes horror should play it IMO.

This. I'm drawn to darker toned everything... art, music, movies, etc. The Sands of Time was a more charming game with a better story, but Warrior Within is a really good action platformer with excellent level design. I really liked The Two Thrones too.

If they're not shutting down, then why is The Walking Dead: The Final Season being cancelled? I would think that it would be the one game that they would finish considering that there's already two episodes, and it's their biggest franchise. I of course don't want to see them shut down since I like a lot of their games, but if nothing else they should at least finish the final season of The Walking Dead.
