  1. This is basically how I feel about the From Software Soulsborne games, they're essentially always on challenges with the only real goal of overcoming one challenge after the other without much else on offer. I like more from games than strictly overcoming a continuous set of challenges, I like entertaining stories, interesting characters, some occasional downtime and an incentive to keep pushing forward to see what's going to happen next in them beyond just seeing more of the world, enemies and bosses.
  2. Both are easily worth $10 each. Wildlands is one of my favorite games this gen, it offers a realistically detailed, massive and varied open world Bolivia packed with stuff to do. The story is somewhat thin, but it's a gameplay focused sandbox game similar to the Mercenaries games and is a complete blast to pick up and play. Breakpoint is similar in a lot of ways, but takes place on a fictional island, has sci-fi elements and is more story focused. I like Wildlands a little more than Breakpoint because it's the better pick up and play and have a good time game, but Breakpoint is a good time as well offering more of a lone wolf action adventure feel to it. If you like third person military action shooters then you can't go wrong with either IMO.

  4. I liked the story. It's not as good as the original trilogy's, but I still found it to be entertaining. The game overall is really good IMO, and I don't get the hate for it. I know that it had a lot of issues right out of the gate, but it's a lot better now in its current post update state.
  5. It was a 9/10 for me, it was one of my favorite games last year and is one of my favorites this gen in general. My only real issue with it were its performance issues, it needed a tad bit more polish. But otherwise it was a solid game throughout. As for Ghost of Tsushima, it looks good but not great IMO. It looks like a typical third person open world action game, but with a feudal Japan setting and samurai theme. I'm not real big on games grounded in reality or based on historical accuracy, I tend to like them to have some fantasy, horror, or sci-fi elements in them to spice things up. Also, I tend to prefer playing as female protagonists in games. If I have to stare at a character's backside for hours at a time while playing then I prefer it to be a female's. I'm much more excited for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla than I am for Ghost of Tsushima, but I'll still probably check it out when I can get it for cheap.
  6. I knew that I was forgetting something. Thanks for bringing this game to my attention. I thought that it was just another Naruto fighting game (which I'm not into), but knowing that it's a 3D platformer with RPG elements interests me. I agree. This gen has definitely seen a lot less B-tier games compared to previous gens. I'm not really into old school style 2D pixel art platformers these days because I played an overabundance of them while growing up, and I don't need every bigger budget game to be a 100+ hour open world experience. Another one that I forgot. Thanks, I will definitely check it out. Because it is.

  8. Thanks. I didn't forget about them as they're a couple of my favorite games of the decade, but I already cheated and listed 15 games instead of 10 and they didn't quite make it.
  9. I did just about everything that there was to do in the Legendary Edition for Xbox 360, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It's one of the best gaming experiences that I've had.

  12. Yeah, the game did seem to come out before it was finished which is a shame since the issues that you mentioned do hurt the overall experience a bit. There's so much good about the game, it just needed some more fine tuning before release. I'm still enjoying my time with it since there's a lot to like about it, but the bugs, jank and overall lack of polish definitely take away from the fun factor. The combat isn't THAT bad IMO. It might not be perfect, but I still somewhat enjoy it. I personally think that a lot of critics are being harder on the game than it deserves. While it has its fair share of issues, it's still a charming and fun fantasy action adventure experience if you can tolerate some shortcomings. The following review is one of the more accurate ones that I've seen:
  13. Game: Decay of Logos Genre: Action adventure Developer: Amplify Creations Publisher: Rising Star Games Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC MSRP: $19.99 (digital only) I've been playing Decay of Logos for a few days now, and I'm really enjoying it. The best way to describe it is a mix of The Legend of Zelda and the Souls games. It has the aesthetics and adventure feel of the Zelda games, and the challenge and design structure of the Souls games. It's not quite as punishing as the Souls games, but it's definitely more challenging than its colorful and cartoonish look might make you think. It begins rather abruptly, and offers no real direction or handholding. There's no map, or quest markers. There are some stone statues in the environments that you can get some slight hints from and an occasional NPC that you come across that sheds a little light on things, but that's about it. The game is all about exploring, and discovery. You feel pretty much alone in the world other than for the enemies that are roaming everywhere. You also have an elk companion that you can ride and store things on, but it controls so clunky and poorly as a mount that going it on foot is the better option. The gameplay consists of weak/strong melee attacks, ranged attacks (bow and arrows/magic), block (shield required) and dash. It takes a while before you acquire a bow, magic and shield, so you'll be using strictly melee weapons for quite some time. You start with a basic sword, and no armor. To gain weapons and armor pieces (head, chest, arms, legs) you need to defeat enemies, and find treasure chests. There are no shops in the game, so everything that you obtain (including potions and arrows) is either from defeating enemies or finding treasure chests. Both weapons and armor will break after extensive use and damage without any way to repair them, so you need to continuously get more throughout your journey. But it takes a long time for weapons and armor to break, so you usually find more before needed and you can store them on your elk. The environments consist of fairly large and open outdoor areas, and more confined indoor areas like caves and ruins which are basically the game's dungeons. You're encouraged to explore everywhere to find key items to progress, and better loot. While the game is action adventure, it has some RPG elements such as stats and leveling. However, there's no XP and I've just leveled after defeating a bunch of enemies. Stats go up the same way, but they will decrease if you die. If they get too low you will go into an injured state, and not be able to sprint. You need to rest at camps (the game's bonfires) to gain them back to where they were. If you like Zelda and Souls games then this is something that you should consider checking out, because it's basically a mix of the two.
  14. It seems like in most games that give you the option to choose between a male and female protagonist (you can choose the gender of your character in GreedFall) the male character is usually somewhat douche-y, so I almost always choose the female character when given the option. The Technomancer was a big improvement over Bound by Flame, and this looks like a big improvement over that. I think that this might be the game that finally puts the developer (Spiders) on the map. From a content standpoint Bound by Flame feels like one of the most incomplete games that I've played, it feels like you start the game at the halfway point. It's like they made a few levels and then ran out of their development budget, so they went ahead and released it without including half of the content that they originally planned for it. That was my biggest complaint with it as I found everything else about it rather competent for a lower budget action RPG.
  15. I just got this, and it's really good. It's probably the best Metroidvania game that I've played. It offers great graphics, music, gameplay and level layouts. The RPG elements add a lot of depth to it, and it's fun to play.
  16. I have a dedicated entertainment room with a home theater (big screen TV/surround sound), so why would I want to play video games on a small handheld screen at home if I have the option to play them on a big screen TV with room filling sound? I think that the Switch Lite is a great lower priced option for people who prefer handheld/portable gaming to home TV gaming, but for me gaming is something that I strictly do at home and I like to do it on a big screen TV with surround sound. I admit that I find it a little surprising that Nintendo made a portable only Switch considering that the whole concept of the Switch is that it's a home TV and portable game system in one, the Switch name doesn't make sense with the Lite since you're not switching anything with it. This is what I want since I have no need for the portability function of the Switch. I don't want to pay extra money for something that I'm not going to use, which is what I would be doing if I bought the current Switch.
  17. I thought that he said that the Switch is all that he currently plays games on, but perhaps I misunderstood. The reason why I sometimes do long game lists is to show that there's a lot more out there than just the really big and popular games that a lot of people tend to primarily focus on. The less popular/well known games out there often get forgotten and/or overlooked, so I like to include them on lists of games that I'm sharing to maybe bring them to the attention of people who might be interested in them but perhaps overlooked them or didn't even know that they existed. I sometimes see lists of games that people recommend, and I often come across ones that I forgot about or that I didn't know about. There's a lot of games out there, and it's not always easy to keep up with them all. That's disappointing to hear.
  18. I really enjoyed Human Revolution as well, I even liked the boss fights. I just thought that the first two Deus Ex games were a little better overall. What didn't you like about it that made you stop playing?
  19. @Keyser_Soze I played Deus Ex: Human Revolution on the Xbox 360, and I have Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for the PS4 but I haven't played it yet. I didn't like Human Revolution quite as much as the first two games in the series, but I heard that Mankind Divided is better.
  20. But you don't have much choice but to gravitate more to indie games if you're only gaming on a Switch, because indie games and niche Japanese games are what it primarily has to offer. Any big budget current gen multiplatform games that it has are gimped because it's basically last gen hardware. I have no doubt that you've played big games, but how many somewhat more recent ones have you played? Deus Ex came out nineteen years ago. Last gen and this gen have offered some of the best bigger budget games that I've played. I say bigger budget and not AAA because not every bigger budget game is AAA, but instead games that have bigger budgets than indie games and get released to retail in physical form. Whatever, I've probably been gaming longer and play more games than anyone else here. I played Deus Ex on the PS2, and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed Deus Ex: Invisible War on the Xbox even more. It's one of my favorite games from that generation.
  21. That might be true for you, but it's not for me. Until I actually play a game then I don't really know for sure how it's going to appeal to me, unless it's within a genre that I don't particularly like. There have been times that I thought that a game looked really good in gameplay videos but I ended up disliking it, just as there have been times that I didn't think that a game looked good in gameplay videos and I ended up liking it. While I feel that the Far Cry series has gone downhill a bit after Far Cry 3, I still like it. This discussion is taking place well into the current generation, so I assumed that it's the one that we were discussing.
  22. He stated in this thread that the Switch is the only platform that he games on, therefore he couldn't have experienced most of the current gen big budget games out there beyond maybe playing some of them at his friend's place who he said has a PS4. But if that's enough for him to come to the conclusion that he prefers indie games to big budget ones, then fair enough. Different strokes for different folks.
