  1. That's what I mean by bettering yourself regardless of what Trump does. It's indisputably been a shitshow, and I remember feeling so weird and confused after he won. It was surreal because I have roots in NY, saw Trump Tower every time I went to visit, and had a neutral feeling because I used to view him as just this rich dickhead who lived somewhere fancy and feuded with Rosie O'Donnell, but wasn't someone who I had to think about on a daily basis so whatever. So I said, "I need to make sure 2017 is as good a year it can be regardless of what he does. And I need to get involved." And so even if it's the tiniest referendum vote, I'll partake. And I acquired new hobbies, I traveled more, I lost weight and felt good about how I looked, and this all took time. But I'm glad I did it, and if there was any silver lining, it's that I realized I'm in a position that my happiness doesn't have to be tied to the president (important that I'm in this position since if you're, say, trans, you're not as fortunate). 2017 ended up being one of my happiest years, but it took effort throughout the whole year. And it also means when something he does affects me (his crappy health care "plan"), I can get involved and do what I can. And after seeing the massive town hall protests defending the ACA and going up against GOP lies about "death panels," the massive people marching to ensure women are heard in the realm of sexual harassment, the many groups working to welcome and support our LGBT friends, the massive Democratic wins last year and the many people in my red area who came out canvassing for Democrats, and the overwhelming amount of people who ran for office because they were sickened by Trump's win, I saw there are many good people who get off their asses to make things better in this country. It was g'damn inspiring. End of the day, Hillary received 65 million votes. In this system, that doesn't get her a win (shitty and needs to change, but it's our system currently). But that does mean there are at least 65 million people who didn't want Trump, and millions and millions of those were involved, are involved and will continue to be involved. There's a lot I'm optimistic about, but it all takes a lot of work and time since Trump is a symptom of many long-standing problems that just became louder, and part of that work is bettering yourself. That's the foundation since you can't be happy no matter who's in office if you're not content with your life. Plus, you have a supportive group of people here who'll help you out.
  2. Thought I was in the 2020 thread and was gonna say, "I think Kamala Harris is a good speaker?" When Hitchens died, I remember some of his fans (dunno how widespread, it could have just been one singular comments section I was reading) thought Harris might be able to carry the torch. I don't know really know if he did or not because I know Hitchens was pro-Iraq War and thought any religion "rots the mind," but I honestly didn't follow him closely enough to know if he was batshit crazy as Harris is. Nor do I know if Harris has made an amazing analogy involving parties while comparing that to people's fear of dying.
  3. I lost one of my closest friends not too long before Trump was elected, among other things. 2016 wasn't a walk in the park for me, but I decided not to let the sunken feeling after he was announced president-elect ruin everything and resolved to better myself regardless of the shitshow his presidency would inevitably be. Some people don't have the luxury of that (asylum seekers, for example). Most of us here do.
  4. I feel Mediterranean cruises would be really cool but they're in places that you'd really want to soak in. If you go to, say, Grand Turk, one day is more than enough.
  5. Benji is an insider who also posts on Reset. He's been pretty consistent that he's thought TLOU2 is releasing in 2019, but now he's gone so far to say 2019 has been the plan for a while and it's all a matter of how quickly then can get this done: This also coincides with many of these either job listings or resumes that keep popping up on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/pauldparker/ This person has worked with both Guerrilla and Naughty Dog and likely works at a visual arts studio. I'm on the 2019 train. Choo-choo. But I guess a delay into Q1 2020 could happen and wouldn't surprise me.
  6. It's a pretty short way to experience different countries, but man, it's always been a blast to do that for me. I danced with a mariachi band a few years ago, which remains one of my favorite memories. The other was singing Beatles songs with a man in Curacao with his guitar. Aruba was fun because the climate was so different than you'd expect (little rain, constantly breezy so no mosquitoes), though we discovered that it's been even drier than that in recent years, so the cacti have been changing colors and some have died. Sometimes it's the little things: a violin trio performing for you, reading with the backdrop of an ocean in front of you, meeting people working there from all over the world, and once I came away with around $400 from the casino and was like, "Welp, this pays for my upcoming car insurance!" You just have to know that you're getting a day in each place, but if you go frequently or, say, once a year, I know people who will do different things each time when they revisit countries since the cruise experience is very fun for them. I like to think that I've swam in pee from some of the United States' original colonists.

  8. I missed the press conference, but apparently Barr said he disagreed with some of Mueller's conclusions or something of the sort. Also, Rosenstein looked like half of the American Gothic Painting.
  9. I've been meaning to ask: Is the thread title IAW's idea, or did someone edit that?
  10. The lifting of restrictions traveling to Cuba was one of the coolest and most unexpected things during the last presidency. These moves are backwards and stupid.
  11. WOW AFTER MANY ERRONEOUSLY CONFIDENTLY THOUGHT UP UNTIL THE POLLS CLOSED THAT HE'D BEAT DOUG JONES IN THE SPECIAL ELECTION SOME OF US DECIDE HEY IT'S A YEAR AND A HALF UNTIL THE NEXT ELECTION THERE'S NO WAY DOUG JONES CAN BEAT HIM -______________________________________________- I'm just saying: we don't even know if he'll make it past the primary (he's leading due to name recognition, and he's leading with 27%).
  12. I mean, she is likely a Trump voter based on her comments on Bure, her Full House friend who's Republican, and her husband is a Trump supporter who thinks others should carry their weight: So yeah, rich douchebag who voted for a rich douchebag who was handed everything who thinks poor people should "carry their own weight" is pretty elitist and typical of a guy of his mindset, not to mention they're both hypocrites despite Loughlin being a woman of "faith" who probably thinks nothing she does is bad because God or something.
  13. I'm big time excited. I've heard from some online who weren't sure if they should purchase one now since next genis about to begin. Now that's more confidence, especially with more VR announcements already made those year.

  15. Ironically, "WHY GIVE IT TO MICHAEL JORDAN AND BILL GATES AND SNL WHY NOT GIVE IT TO FIREFIGHTERS AND SHIT?" was the refrain in late 2016. I'm sure those people hold the same opinion now.
