  1. I wasn’t expecting Cassidy to actually vote to convict. Seven Republicans, 50 Democrats, damn. They actually did convince some to ultimately vote yes.
  2. Having just one arc is a basic building block of any movie that some movies can't handle (Phantom Menace, I can't figure out if it has any), but handling character arcs for many characters, with clear beginnings and ends, is not an easy feat or else anyone could do it. Yes, it is much of an achievement, and I feel underselling it means people are struggling to invent reasons why the film could be considered bad in any universe. It's also one reason why ESB is much better than ROTJ even if the climax in ROTJ is much more emotional. Han's basically just there, Lando is just there, and Leia has a revelation but doesn't progress in the same way she did in ESB. ESB moves Luke, Han, Leia, and Lando, all of whom are different by the end of the film. ROTJ has two really good ones for Luke and Vader, but that's also why those scenes with the emperor are way more interesting than anything else in the film.

  4. Then they're not crappy. A movie's not crappy because you didn't like the characters. I loved them, and on a critical level, both can't be true. What we do know is that this: is one of the most powerful moments in any of the movies because it's earned, and everything was put into place for that moment to matter.
  5. It was "good," and Duel of the Fates is a wonderful piece, but it didn't have enough music that really hit those high points like, say, The Last Jedi or The Spark. What I mean by that is DOTF is fantastic but is clearly standalone and could be put anywhere. It doesn't have a ton of music that really goes exactly with the scene and ebbs and flows with what's happening on screen. Liking the characters is subjective. The fact that multiple characters have clear arcs in one movie is an achievement; we don't have to pretend the movie isn't anything other than well made.
  6. That's why I take the route of the light side and recognize TLJ as the seminal achievement it is. But I don't even think you can quantify it as, "Only the cinematography is good." Then we're clearly not understanding the basics of character arcs, never mind some of the performances in the film or the music or being able to have actual payoffs instead of big moments that don't feel big.
  7. It’s okay to be completely wrong and not see obvious successes in setups/payoffs and ability to construct arcs with multiple characters.
  8. See? I saved @Kal-El814 from more talk about what's his face by talking TLJ. It's a golden oldie that never fails!
  9. A great Episode 9 would have really done wonders, and it's a pity that nobody could build on some of the good ideas Trevorrow had. But individually, it's a fine film, and I can watch 4 - 8 easy and think that's a great series on its own since TLJ has an ending that works as something new for the series.
  10. I really enjoy shopping at Best Buy and do most of my electronics shopping there. I actually read years ago -- maybe two or three -- that they were doing pretty well in this Amazon world where online shopping has gotten so much bigger. So I don't know if they're doing badly, or if it's just the realities of less in-foot traffic plus the pandemic. The Best Buy credit card has also been hugely beneficial as it's so easy to rack up gift certificates.

  14. I'm also thinking it's slipping to 2022. But if I were assured that, hell yes, it's coming this year, then it would top the list easily.
  15. Right now, it's Returnal for me, but between that, Ratchet, and Horizon Forbidden West (hope it makes 2021), they're all up there. We haven't really had a full-blown new Ratchet since the PS3, as fun as the PS4 remake was.
  16. Fuck I think I'm taking a year delayed vacation at that time, FUCK, this sucks, what shit, I should just cancel everything so I can play
  17. There’s nothing tyrannical about getting fired for making a bad Holocaust comparison. George 100% would sign up for thinking she’s a dumbass. The people who are fired for being racist, anti Semitic, anti immigrant, are the same people he explicitly said he doesn’t go after because they’re the underdogs. He believed in punching up, not down. Anyone who doesn’t understand this does not know about him.
