  1. I'd be more worried when those single player games stop selling. However, half of the best selling games last year were single player games with the top selling game being Hogwarts or Zelda.
  2. I know, I'm just agreeing with that sentiment. That's why I previously mentioned WB because they had a great selling single player game followed by a flop of a live service game, but their conclusion is that they need more live service games. The videogame industry is run by execs with brain worms.
  3. Monthly average users over the course of an entire year is such a terrible way to measure player engagement of a tight, single player RPG. A game that everyone is playing and gushing over a few months after release is going to overtaken by the popular live service and multiplayer games. Nintendo seems to be the only anomaly here with three single player games making it into the top ten. Five, if you count Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
  4. Ha! Yeah, I didn't watch it, but mostly because I already read the report they're talking about...also, I could totally be playing a new game in the half hour they talk about the thing I already read.
  5. I remember when these numbers first popped up and this was my take away. New game comes out, a bunch of people buy/play them, and then go back to their long time favorites. I don't see this as a bad thing. The industry has had this unhealthy obsession with holding onto players' attention for as long as possible, even if the game doesn't warrant it. There is nothing wrong with a great single player game that everyone pays for and then moves on from. However, that's treated like some sort of failure; like how WB wants to double down on live service games and move away from even ultra successful single player games. I get that everyone wants to be the next forever game, but the industry is going to kill itself if that's all everyone is aiming for. I just read an article about this sort of thing earlier today... I'm so sick of games that shoot themselves in the foot just to boost phoney player engagement numbers | PC Gamer WWW.PCGAMER.COM Someone please take the shotgun away from in-game economy designers who are ruining the goodwill built up by the rest of the team.
  6. Anyone else watching anything this season? Kaiju No 8 is a pretty good adaptation. I am a fan of the source material, so I'm happy the anime is doing it justice. Same goes for Viral Hit. Viral Hit can be a tough watch, though. It is about a small kid trying to beat up bullies, so there's a lot of bullies beating down helpless kids. Still a good manhwa, especially when it starts picking up steam. Also, I've got a fun sleeper hit. Train to the End of the World. The anime was not at all on my radar, but I'm loving it three episodes in. It's a weirdo, monster of the week sort of thing. I can barely describe the anime without sounding like a crazy person. Some tech company rolls out 7G and it tears apart the fabric of reality. Some people turn into animals, others become mushrooms. It's so delightfully weird. Random, but what the hell is up with all the music anime this season? Whisper Me a Love Song was pretty cute. However, it's criminal that of all the musicals this season, the anime with the best music was not licensed to stream anywhere outside of Japan. Girls Band Cry, easily, has the best music of any of the musicals airing right now. I mean, that's not a very high bar to clear since the only musical anime in recent memory with legitimately good music is Bocchi the Rock. Still, that feels like an odd miss to just pass up a Toei anime starring a bunch of fresh faces from a talent hunt across Japan.

  9. I've been following the story about Dimension 20 on Reddit and their Discord. It really seems like their checkout crashes a lot. Then, when folks come back after the site is working again, prices are through the roof. I don't know if they're purposefully crashing carts, but I'd strongly believe it if they just refuse to properly scale their site. It's such a "happy coincidence" that the time they hope to raise prices is also when the site is being hammered and people in the queue with tickets selected at one price can't check out.

  15. Police straight up smother a man to death. He wasn't suspected of any actual crime, but was in the hospital for a mental health crisis. This is an older story, but the department finally lost the flight to keep the video from going public. I could not watch the video because I don't really feel like watching a man die while screaming "I can't breath". 17. Wasn't it free and then access to some features or some boards or maybe the whole thing was put behind a paywall or something? I remember it being fully free when I first registered and then it went to paid and I got to sneak in under the radar because I wrote a few terrible articles for them back when I was in college.
  18. I am so much more productive at home than I was in the office. That said, part of that might be the no stress from traveling 1.5 hours, one way. Another part is that I'm mostly on the server, services, and policy side of IT where as half the office anyways thinks IT is IT and I spend so much time trying to bat away laptop and phone questions. I do miss the free beer and ice cream, though.
