  1. Adding to my paranoia is that one time, pre-COVID, I actually did have a call automatically connect as video while I was still in my underwear. I'd been having a problem with the phone software and IT reset all the settings to default and I'd forgotten that the software defaults to video on until it happened.
  2. Philly’s Four Seasons Total Landscaping dishes the dirt on the news conference heard ’round the world: ‘It was nothing we anticipated’ WWW.INQUIRER.COM “Who knew that our garage doors were going to be the back of every Zoom meeting?”
  3. Where did you see the New Mexico Pinon? I've never seen it in a store since TJ's stopped carrying it. If you want to order I think it's $50 for free shipping, so ordering a variety of 12 oz bags is a good way to hit $50 and try a few different flavors.
  4. Yeah it's pretty whack but I get a lot of good work from him. He used to bike 15 miles each way to work most days (we have showers and lockers) and then first get on these 8 AM calls, he's one of those people. A different time with different people I was the only west coast person on a call and they tried to schedule a meeting for 9 AM eastern. That one I had no problem with writing back that I wasn't going to be making that call at 6 AM Pacific (I do think it was a genuine oversight since I was the only west coast person, since they moved it once I pointed that out).
  5. I've been drinking this for a long time. Used to get it from Trader Joe's and then started ordering it direct when TJ's stopped carrying it. Also do some of their other flavors when I order, the pecan one in particular is pretty good. Decided to take a bit of a break though, right now just drinking a gingerbread coffee and TJ's house medium roast.
  6. Yeah but I get paranoid about "oh god, is the webcam ACTUALLY off? Am I ACTUALLY on mute?"
  7. is that my coffee inevitably shoots through me right about halfway through the meeting. Good thing they're audio-only so I can just mute myself.
  8. The 14 TB external HDD for $189 I posted and an Xbox Series X controller for $40. I also bought a Raspberry Pi to set up a Samba share for the external HDD but that wasn't on a Black Friday sale.
  9. AirBnB is not the root cause of housing shortages. If cities would actually permit enough housing to be built it AirBnB wouldn't have a measurable effect.
  10. Canada PM Trudeau indicates U.S. border restrictions to last a long time | Reuters WWW.REUTERS.COM Canada will not agree to lifting a ban on non-essential travel with the United States until the coronavirus outbreak is significantly under control around the world, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday.
  11. Carter blanket pardoned Vietnam draft dodgers regardless of whether they'd actually been charged. And didn't Ford's pardon of Nixon include stuff he hadn't actually been accused of yet?
  12. And for what I was doing a full paper would have been overkill, I just needed a basic understanding and something citable.
  13. I mean physics has arXiv. It was a few years ago so I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing it was something like the HyperPhysics websites.
  14. I'm pretty sure I ran into this even trying to look into a physics topic, wasn't sure where to start so I figured Wikipedia overview+citations would be a good jumping off point, but nope.
  15. Because the county health department ordered outdoor dining to shut back down last week: Growing list of cities look to break away from LA County health department ABC7.COM Following the recent restrictions on outdoor dining, the list of cities looking to break away from the L.A. County Department of Public Health is growing.
  16. Also I just looked and apparently Dutch also uses the same pronoun for "she" and "they".
  17. German (and remember, English is a Germanic language) uses the same exact word for "she" and "they". Which I'm guessing is why singular they goes back as far as the 14th century like @Commissar SFLUFAN was mentioning, when English was still way more blatantly Germanic.
  18. Sometimes yes sometimes no. If it was a media-heavy link that could show up but be borked if all the media wasn't grabbed. Plus it's a lot less useful to have to first put all those dead links through the wayback machine to see if it ever cached the site. Plus I've seen pages completely change between wayback machine caches.
  19. Have you actually tried doing that anytime recently? Sooooo many fucking dead links in Wikipedia citations sections.
  20. The toughest, most pro-military president ever, who insists he makes all the big manly generals cry just by being so insanely awesome, is going to refuse to fund the military unless people are forbidden from saying mean things about him on social media.
