  1. It’s happening: Starship may fly to 15km as early as Friday ARSTECHNICA.COM For this test, Starship will ascend above nearly 90 percent of the atmosphere.
  2. As I posted in the thread about it, some people were buying those and harvesting the drives for NASes, but I didn't want to spend the money to get multiple drives and a NAS box. Plus there's two things that are going on that drive: backup copies of things which will also live on one of my internal drives (and, one thing I was interested in going for by getting the Pi to put it on my network, everything is on a different outlet and I think different breaker on the circuit breaker than my desktop is), and things which would be annoying but not an actual problem to lose (like "acquired" TV show episodes and movies). Of course I'm not putting my only copy of anything important on there.
  3. Liddle' Donald Cuck Congress shoots down Trump's threat to veto defense bill - POLITICO WWW.POLITICO.COM Top Republicans and Democrats plan to ignore the president's eleventh-hour demand to repeal a legal shield for social media companies.
  4. How congestion pricing could help fix NYC’s crumbling subway system NY.CURBED.COM The surcharge on drivers is touted as a way to reduce traffic and fund the city’s ailing subways—here’s what you need to know.
  5. Senate rushes to confirm Trump FCC nominee in order to hinder Biden admin ARSTECHNICA.COM Democrats fight nomination, hoping for 2-1 FCC majority when Biden is sworn in.
  6. Man, fuck Cuomo with an active third rail. The MTA already budgeted for this money and there's zero chance they did that without Cuomo telling them it was coming. MTA's Controversial Congestion Pricing Plan Delayed Until At Least 2023 NEWYORK.CBSLOCAL.COM The plan was expected to add $15 billion to the MTA's budget and reduce congestion.
  7. Adding to my paranoia is that one time, pre-COVID, I actually did have a call automatically connect as video while I was still in my underwear. I'd been having a problem with the phone software and IT reset all the settings to default and I'd forgotten that the software defaults to video on until it happened.
  8. Philly’s Four Seasons Total Landscaping dishes the dirt on the news conference heard ’round the world: ‘It was nothing we anticipated’ WWW.INQUIRER.COM “Who knew that our garage doors were going to be the back of every Zoom meeting?”
  9. Where did you see the New Mexico Pinon? I've never seen it in a store since TJ's stopped carrying it. If you want to order I think it's $50 for free shipping, so ordering a variety of 12 oz bags is a good way to hit $50 and try a few different flavors.
  10. Yeah it's pretty whack but I get a lot of good work from him. He used to bike 15 miles each way to work most days (we have showers and lockers) and then first get on these 8 AM calls, he's one of those people. A different time with different people I was the only west coast person on a call and they tried to schedule a meeting for 9 AM eastern. That one I had no problem with writing back that I wasn't going to be making that call at 6 AM Pacific (I do think it was a genuine oversight since I was the only west coast person, since they moved it once I pointed that out).
  11. I've been drinking this for a long time. Used to get it from Trader Joe's and then started ordering it direct when TJ's stopped carrying it. Also do some of their other flavors when I order, the pecan one in particular is pretty good. Decided to take a bit of a break though, right now just drinking a gingerbread coffee and TJ's house medium roast.
  12. Yeah but I get paranoid about "oh god, is the webcam ACTUALLY off? Am I ACTUALLY on mute?"
  13. is that my coffee inevitably shoots through me right about halfway through the meeting. Good thing they're audio-only so I can just mute myself.
  14. The 14 TB external HDD for $189 I posted and an Xbox Series X controller for $40. I also bought a Raspberry Pi to set up a Samba share for the external HDD but that wasn't on a Black Friday sale.
  15. AirBnB is not the root cause of housing shortages. If cities would actually permit enough housing to be built it AirBnB wouldn't have a measurable effect.
  16. Canada PM Trudeau indicates U.S. border restrictions to last a long time | Reuters WWW.REUTERS.COM Canada will not agree to lifting a ban on non-essential travel with the United States until the coronavirus outbreak is significantly under control around the world, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday.
  17. Carter blanket pardoned Vietnam draft dodgers regardless of whether they'd actually been charged. And didn't Ford's pardon of Nixon include stuff he hadn't actually been accused of yet?
  18. And for what I was doing a full paper would have been overkill, I just needed a basic understanding and something citable.
