  1. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not this was a good investment, especially considering the one game I play doesn't feed into it properly (more on that later). For a couple of games, this monitor is awesome. I never realized how much I would appreciate the total peripheral vision that comes with a monitor like this. Red Dead Redemption 2 just looks awesome, and sometimes I'm left wondering how I ever got along without such a large monitor. Pluses: It's huge. Handles most games pretty well. Negatives: Expensive. Cost me nearly $1000 Really only has 1080p. I'm okay with that, but I understand that a lot of the critics have derided that as a significant factor not to buy, and I totally get that. Doesn't work with every game. As to that last point, this is why I'm really torn on this investment. I play Star Wars The Old Republic religiously, and for some reason even though its graphics choices have a 3840x1080 option, it stretches everything sideways so that every character looks extremely fat and each item on screen is a lot wider than it really appears. I can't fix this no matter what I do. I even tried putting the game in window mode and changing the resolution. The game has some inherent resolution parameters that just won't allow you to make a change that makes a difference. On numerous forums, the other widescreen users all complained about the same thing, and my favorite was one that linked to SWTOR customer support saying "update your drivers" as if every person on the planet hasn't tried doing that. Anyway, those are my thoughts. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
  2. I bought RDR2 the other day, and I've had a really weird experience with it that I can't seem to solve. I started the night before playing through the solo campaign, and I got to the first house where you fight the first bandits (not really a spoiler as it's mostly in the initial moments of the playthrough), but I went back to play it again the next day, and for some reason, my guy can't shoot ANYTHING. Oh, I aim and hit them, but they do no damage, so I just keep shooting and shooting until they kill me. I can't seem to fix this, and the game is completely stuck at this moment because there's just no reason for this whatsoever. I've completely restarted and tried to play through, but it just hits that point and basically the enemies are completely invincible. The graphics for this game are AWESOME, and I suspect I'd really like this type of game, but I'm completely stuck and incapable of moving forward.
  3. I had voted for Super Soldiers but I was overruled by the Supreme Commander.
  4. I think you're missing the reason behind my criticism. It's not that there is a lack of choice, but in that they give you choices that are completely irrelevant. And even that is somewhat fine, except my complaint is that they give you a choice, you take it, and then they cycle back around and force you to then take the choice you didn't want to take (because the game won't get you out of the dialogue options UNTIL YOU DO). So, why not just force the required dialogue option from the start, so I don't feel like I had a choice that was then swiped away from me to choose something I WOULD NEVER SAY. It's basically the complete destruction of any immersion a player might have. And for games that did it well, Skyrim is a good example. You still had to take a certain, somewhat similar path that everyone else would take, but it didn't force decisions upon you that you wouldn't normally make. I also look at practically any Bioware game made from a few years back. That was good writing, and it still pushed the story forward. Now, keep in mind, I'm still way new into this game, so maybe they redeem themselves. I just haven't had time to see that yet, and I'm only pointing out something that immediately stuck with me less than two minutes into the game.
  5. Okay, I bought it and started it. So far (about ten minutes in), the graphics are really awesome. My only concern so far (and I'll probably play later tonight...just don't have time yet) is that some of the early dialog options really seem limited, like it gives you a choice of things to say, you say the cool one, and then it turns back around and still forces you to choose the dialogue option that you didn't want in the first place. Kind of hoping this doesn't become a regular thing, because that just indicates bad writing and scripting, and I really, really, want to enjoy this game.
  6. Okay, question: I keep reading that this is mainly playable on current systems, and especially on good PC systems. Well, my computer, which was top of the line last year, is running a combination of an Nvidia 2080 with a gtx 1080 together, so my question is "is this decent enough" to play the game decently, or am I going to end up having to upgrade to the 3080 line (think that's the current one). With this combination card system, I've been uncertain when I'll have to upgrade, or even to what when I do.
  7. I tend to stick with one game for long periods of time. Like, right now, I've been replaying Skyrim, trying to find a lot of the places I never found before. I've put in about 300 hours on it so far. But my overall most played game (at least according to Steam) is Star Trek Online, which I stopped playing at 4,426 hours. Yeah, I know some people have absurd amounts of time in games, but that is my overall largest played game. WoW might be a second, but I don't know how many hours that is as I haven't signed into that for a couple of years now.
  8. Most of you know I'm a writer and have been most of my adult life. Anyway, in a few days (November 1st) begins NaNoWriMo, which is a competition that happens every year where people who have always wanted to (or have done so numerous times) attempt to write an entire novel in a month. They actually have a lot of information on how to get involved at nanowrimo.org. Basically, the goal is 50,000 words (a small novel), and people tend to share their works in progress with everyone as they go along, and there are discussion groups for all sorts of different areas all focused on reaching the goal. Anyway, my novel this year has the working title of 1991. It's an action/adventure told from the perspective of both the main character in 1991 and a historian today, trying to uncover the original story.
  9. So, I got a few hours in on Death Stranding. I love the graphics and the really quiet feel of the game. REALLY don't like the invisible attackers (not my sort of thing). I hate scenes where something jumps out at you. But I really like the delivery aspect of the game and the long walks across the wilderness. It's like American Truck Simulator without the trucks (I suck at handling trucks in a computer game and really wish I could find ATS using just a car as the interface...I'd never stop playing that game). I'm currently in the incinerator right now, debating whether or not to continue this game because now I have to sneak past a bunch of invisible ghosts and I FREAKING HATE THAT KIND OF GAME. to be honest, if I could just turn off the ghosts, this game would probably be the game I've always wanted.
  10. I'm only right past the first cave, and getting concerned that it's going to involve lots of invisible enemies, something that sort of freaks me out when playing a game. It's definitely starting out pretty weird. If a two-headed, giant rabbit would have shown up right after I left the cave and offered me grape nuts cereal, I wouldn't have been all that surprised.
  11. I'm thinking of picking up Death Stranding, just cause I've run out of things I want to play, and my computer is just staring at me, feeling betrayed by my lack of attention. My problem is I'm such an eclectic game player that for some reason, I tend to like things a lot of other people can't stand and don't like things that are extremely popular; I've never really understood why.
  12. It's EXTREMELY average. Part of me still sees this as the boy who cried wolf scenario, in that I have a hard time believing Trump actually caught the virus. I was looking at the news cycle for Friday, and there's enough data that was going to be playing pretty hard against Trump, including the horrible display at the debate. that it would not surprise me if this was orchestrated as his October surprise, so that he's out of commission (but probably will start tweeting in a day or so), they'll be calling for Biden to suspend his campaign, and then two weeks later, he'll claim he was miraculously cured by sniffing paint thinner or something stupid like that, so he can then continue to say "I told you it was really just a hoax!" The problem with this guy is that it's really hard to take him at face value for anything he says or does. He's lied too many times and claimed fake news over tons and tons of content that is most definitely real.
  13. So, I have that one student who finished one test out of five and didn't turn in the required essay who just asked me: "What can I do to pass this class?" I was in the middle of posting grades when she wrote. I want to respond with "Do you have a DeLorean and a flux capacitor?"
  14. I did my first political stream on Twitch today, and at one point some guy argued with me, saying he disagreed with my take on Joe Biden. I responded that I never mentioned Joe Biden or was discussing him. He said he still disagreed with me on Joe Biden. I think I was actually talking about the spread of Coronavirus in Florida at the time. So yeah, I totally get why he disagreed with my take on Joe Biden.
  15. Oh, you mean the thread. I was looking at your post and then thinking, "there's no more info under your words!!!!!" And then I understood.
  16. That was my immediate thought, but realized it didn't matter because the only people who care and believe anything he says will NEVER hear the analysis of anything stupid he says. It's partly why I'm so turning off 2020 and fast-forwarding to 2021, where I hope I don't emerge from my cryosleep and discover we're living in the Purge or government has become Skynet.
  17. Yeah, I did try Warframe recently, too. Did the first mission (after the introductory mission), and felt somewhat underwhelmed by the whole experience. I'm sure there's a lot I might be missing of it so far, but its interface made it really difficult to figure out what to do, or even how to do it.
  18. I didn't actually see the thread. Okay, posted there, and locked this one.
  19. recently got into Destiny 2. Keep in mind, I've owned it since it was released, played it for about an hour the first time, and then I shelved it. Then Bungie pushed it from Battle.net to Steam, and because I'm a completionist, I moved my account over, and of course, didn't play it. Then, bored out of my mind because I had just finished writing my latest novel, I was looking for a game to play, got bogged down in the boredom of Star Trek Online, and then out of the blue just noticed the game in my Steam folder and said, "why not?" So, I bought up all the expansions, the matching set of buttons, flashing key chain, and some service that said "we'll also massage your grandma". So, I bought everything, and I started to play. Okay, simple things: I like the game. Took forever to get somewhat used to it, as I'm not a shooter type of player. But literally a week and a half later, I'm having daily fun. So, here are a couple of questions, and observations: 1. I hate pvp. With a passion. Maybe it's my PTSD from being pk'd in Ultima Online back in 1970 (or whenever that was), but I just hate pvp. I don't like killing the avatars of real people either. It's zero fun to me. So, this is probably one of my biggest negatives towards the game because a LOT of the content appears to be geared around activities that are basically pvp (crucible, gambit, and so much more). 2. I'm at about 1010 skill right now, and I have zero idea how to increase further. It was going up really fast before, but it's stuck now, mostly. 3. I don't have a clan, which I suspect would help a lot of things, because the game is really frustrating as just a solo player. I don't even know how to successfully find one. I got sent an invite once by someone, but there were like 3 people in his clan, and that was about as bad as just playing solo. Do WE have a clan built up in the game and active? If so, send me an invite (I'm little_sarbonn in the game; yeah, quite a surprise for a name, huh?). 4. Part of me is thinking I'm just touching the surface of this genre of games, so if you know of any others out there that are action-oriented and with a huge player base, and it's fun, please let me know. Basically, something like Destiny 2 with very limited (or non-existent) pvp, would be great. The game actually reminds me a lot of Defiance, but with a lot more territory to traverse, and a much larger player base. The recent re-launch of Defiance is a travesty of what the previous game was, kind of like the enhancement we got from the New Game Experience in Star Wars Galaxies. Devs can sometimes be really, really good at destroying what made a game actually good. Anyway, thanks for the one person who might have got through this wall of text. And as a result of being the ONLY survivor, you will be rewarded the special ANKH OF CLARITY, which will be provided by Bethesda's Technical Support in their usual timely fashion.
  20. Been playing Destiny 2 mostly with a smidgen of Warframe.
