They were competitors. Binance essentially initiated the "bank run" that led to the collapse of FTX by publicly questioning the solvency of FTX. I have zero doubt that the Big 4 didn't even bother picking up the phone when Binance called as I'm convinced that their internal risk management departments have issued directives to not even consider engaging with those type of clients.
