Feds give the states a $ amount for x (in this case Medicaid, the safety net health program) and there are usually a few strings attached, but for the most part it's "do whatever you want" Quote
Guest Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 This only applies to the ACA expansion group from what I have read. Traditional Medicaid for the elderly, children, and disabled people will remain the same. Quote

Currently medical bills under Medicaid are split typically 80/20 between the Feds and States (split varies depending on the coverage group and service). Under a Block Grant the Feds instead give the States a lump sum for the year based on a formula and that's it. The State either has to make up the difference themselves or cut services. It also lets Republicans cut the Block Grant without cutting services themselves (since the State has to) and blame the States for cut: "Texas lived within their Block Grant, not our fault Illinois wasted their's".
