The Atlanta Democrat, 79, said his cancer diagnosis was confirmed during a routine medical visit this month. He said he’s “clear-eyed” about the prognosis, but hopeful that new treatment options give him a “fighting chance.”

“I’ve been in some kind of fight – for freedom, equality, basic human rights – for nearly my entire life,” he said. “I have never faced a fight quite like this one.”

We are already seeing that with the passing of the Holocaust generation.

There are already huge swaths of the American population who actually believe that the US Civil War "ended" racism in the US. There is a huge ignorance of the period from the 1860s through to today.
