Spawn_of_Apathy
Teachers would push on this as most will not see a increase in compensation for it. personally I think kids should go to school more days out of the year. Pepper in a couple more 1-2 week off stints through the year to break the school year up.
Keyser_Soze
My mom was a teacher and she seems to be in favor of this.

The problem is the people actually using the summer break for something will almost certainly be louder than the people who'd prefer that change. We had the same thing at my college, back in the 1950s they instituted a 5 week winter break because they didn't want to pay to heat the buildings in January, and then it stuck because people started using the break for internships and stuff (even though it causes problems for people with summer internships because we wouldn't be done until after Memorial Day). More and more places are switching to "year-round" school

Dodger
I don’t know if they still do it but I had 6 week winter breaks when I went Cal State Fullerton. I assume it isn’t because of winter heating costs. But they were still on a two semester system too which sucked. They dragged on forever.
