Space Command is a Combatant Command just like US Pacific Command and US Northern Command, space is currently under US Strategic Command with Air Force Space Command serving as the Service Component Command. This basically transfers Air Force Space Command from US Strategic Command to US Space Command operationally. Breaking space off from US Strategic Command is a good idea (cyber was broken off last yearish when US Cyber Command was created), and we had a US Space Command until Rumsfeld killed it. Space Force would be taking Air Force Space Command administratively away from the US Air Force making it independent under the Department of the Air Force (like the Marines under the Department of the Navy).
