"Each game includes one round playing as the enemies, and one playing as the heroes. Since Vermintide is basically Left 4 Dead with Warhammer skins, it makes sense to add the popular versus mode (where it's 4 vs 4 as well). 4 of the players still play co-op, but the other 4 take control of the infected (or in this case monsters).
