I hit a beautiful area tonight. I am forgetting the name but it's more lush and a little farm land. The story keeps this thing rolling and I make sure to loot everything for upgrades. It's a great game is right. I'll definitely stay with it because I have it on my deck. I play 2 hours a day. They said on easier difficulties it's about 20 hours. I'm about 11 hours in so I have got a ways to go.

There is tons of optional content - howlongtobeat has it from 20 hours for a straight story run all the way to 70+ for completion. If you try to do everything and don’t mainline the quest and especially if you go for all the loot, it’ll be a lot longer than 20 hours. The middle ground for doing a lot of the main side content but not everything is about 40 hours which is what I expect my play through to be around. And yeah after the initial area things get more lush and the UE5 graphics really shine.

I’m probably at the last fourth or so now of the game and yeah it’s really great. I’m not sure if choice feels as impactful as in Vampyr - I think that element is a bit more binary here with pretty much making one choice that then shapes the others though I’m not always following that.

But everything else here is improved. The actual writing, the environments, the combat, the pacing, variety, exploration, it’s a big leap in what this team is capable of. The story and atmosphere is still top tier as usual for Don’t Nod.

Definitely recommend not sleeping on this one and also to go in planning on it being a 40 hour or so game because I don’t think it would be great to just mainline the main story missions since you’d miss so much about the town and its residents and its mysteries which is the point of the game.

Nearing the end, doing the remaining side quests before the final push. Leveled up all gear slots to the max now! I like that they have infinite spawning nests for some of the key upgrade components so you don’t have to run all over to get the highest level gear.

Also it makes me lol sometimes the videogameness of how you will just walk into a strangers house, take some of their stuff, look through all their things, read their diary, etc and then if the owner walks in and catches you and is like wtf are you doing, you are just like “I am the Banisher!” Like, with total confidence and conviction believing that since you get rid of ghosts you can do whatever the fuck you want whenever the fuck you want and expect everyone to be okay with that.

I don’t know. If someone got rid of the ghost in my house, he can definitely browse my porn history if he wants.

True. I guess partially it’s just that even though I’m playing as one, I still don’t quite believe that this is a real profession. That I’m not just this lunatic running through town causing mischief and sometimes murdering people. That’s what I want to believe actually.

@stepee What's your next game after this? I need to finish this but FF7 has taken over my life! In fact I haven't touched my deck since last Wednesday.

Idk, I’ll beat this in a couple days probably so Horizon won’t be out on pc yet for me to do Burning Shores and a couple weeks from Alone in the Dark so I’m deciding between tackling either Infinite Wealth or Persona 5 Royal. I want to do both this year but I’m leaning towards IW atm.

IW is a huge cutscene. Extremely disappointing.

This game has the simplest while still being satisfying shooting mechanic. There isn’t anything too it mechanically beyond you aim and shoot and then hold LT to reload. You have unlimited ammo, it just ignores the idea of ammo completely. But the feel and weight of the shotgun is great, and normally you don’t get to use a shotgun so willy nilly. And then especially so if you get the perk where Antea does a ghost kick when you hit an enemy’s weakspot. It does this kind of slot machine sounding DING as the bullet connects and then Anrea jumps at them, it’s fantastic.

And done! I really really enjoyed this and it’s a marked improvement as a game over Vampyr.

It I were to rate it, I’d probably give it an 8.8/10, marking it down a little due to perhaps a little over stuffing of content, inconsistent character models, and lack of enemy variety. The feeling of your actions having consequence is also a little less than Vampyr I felt, though it definitely does matter still.

High marks to its overall graphic presentation as an AA, quality of side quests, overall story, atmosphere, level/world design, and some solid combat mechanics that do something a little different with the ghost switching.

Definitely one of the more memorable games this gen so far for me and one that will likely go down as one of my favorites as Vampyr was last gen.

To touch on what I mean by too much content.. I was fine doing every main haunting side quest - I think players should definitely go for that, they are all worthwhile and well done. But it does make this for quite a long game in addition to some other challenges as well.

But then on top of that there are “activities”, which is fine, I’m good at ignoring secondary “lesser” side quests that don’t touch on the main story as much. But each haunting quest seems to have its actual true ending tied to an activity quest after you beat it. So essentially each side quest has its own side quest. I would have preferred any additional content like that to seperate out from the side quest stories. And I’d rather have the little bit of extra exposition to simply have played out after you beat the original side quests, which already have multiple missions attached as it is.

Not a huge deal and some people might want to dive in and spend the extra time but the game already took about 55 hours and I had 15 more of those to go and was already maxed out level wise when I decided to go for the ending.

Speaking of, I’m glad i got the good ending! The others wouldn’t have felt right for how I played. I was a little nervous if I would or not because I did go against my oath on a couple choices to do what I thought was “right” but luckily the game does give you a little bit of leeway.

I need to finish this. You do a really good job of focusing on one game to completion and I'm more scattered brain. I got 27 games going at once.

I only get by because I tend to separate my game time between day and night time. Day time gaming I’ll usually focus on one game and then at night just play whatever. I get a lot of the dopamine rush gaming out at night that way.

WHATIFGAMING.COM

I had a chance to talk to Stéphane Beauverger from DON'T NOD and in this Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden interview, we'll discuss the game.

In this interview they confirm that Banishers and Vampyr exist in the same universe :O

Now link Life is Strange and Remember Me to them and let’s goooo Don’t Nod Avengers.
