Kinda wild to see how much content there is coming out for this in 2023. Also absolutely nuts that they (meaning Disney / LFL) seem so fucking scared of releasing ANYTHING related to the sequel era. I appreciate that between the movies and cartoons, the Prequel Era is probably the most lucrative at the moment, but... I'd paint some Kylo, Rey, and Finn bullshit. Phasma would be fun to chrome out.

Anyway gonna be interesting to see how this takes off and if I can con any of my friends into playing with me. :p

I had the identical thought recently as well!

Disney well and truly appears to have tossed the Sequel Era down the ol' "memory hole".

Bigger minis — and fewer of them — mean less time painting, more time playing

Quote

“Tactically, strategically, it’s a very different experience,” head of product development Will Shick told Polygon during a demo at this year’s AdeptiCon. “In Legion, what you’re doing is you’re building an army that is going to have synergies and tactics. You’re choosing your command cards. You’re choosing your units. You’re making a battle plan. And then your goal in Legion is to execute that plan as well as you can, while your opponent influences you by force.”

“Instead of it being on how your army works together and synergizes, and how you build the perfect Rube Goldberg machine,” Shick continued, “the focus [in Shatterpoint] is heavily on the characters and what the character is doing. And part of that is the fact that you have a lot less strategic control.”

Yeah this seems like it. Part of the appeal in something like MCP is someone like Hulk yeeting bits of terrain at Doc Ock and this seems to be leaning into that more with a  Star Wars flair.

I think MCP has done well for AMG and Legion continues to do well, so I suspect this should be solid also. Kinda hard to tell with non GW games since those suck the air out of the room; finding players for other games is a much more "local" affair.

Once battered and broken, now restored and fueled only by his hatred of an old rival, Lord Maul™ is the focus of today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint Unit preview.

Maul_FB.png?format=750w

Quote

Thought dead, Maul survived his injuries by focusing on his hatred of Obi-Wan Kenobi™, the Jedi who cut him in half. His shattered body was dumped amid the refuse of a junk planet, where he was found by his brother Savage Opress™. Opress brought Maul back to his homeworld of Dathomir, where the Nightsister Mother Talzin™ used dark magicks to restore his mind and body. Maul reemerged, still obsessed with Kenobi. With his newly regained strength, he formed the Shadow Collective and took control of Mandalore. Unsatisfied by the power and status he has claimed, Lord Maul’s focus lies on his all-consuming desire for revenge.

Lord Maul comes to the battlefield prepared to wreak havoc on anyone who stands in his way. After all that he has endured, Maul is Sustained By Rage. This Identity ability defines Lord Maul’s playstyle, allowing him to suffer damage instead of spending force to pay for his abilities. That isn’t the only benefit of this ability, though, it also grants Maul additional attack based on how much damage he has suffered over the course of the game. Bearing this in mind, along with his Durability of 2, Lord Maul is an extreme glass cannon whose influence on the battlefield is often bombastic and short-lived. Lord Maul provides a solid 8 squad points during strike team construction, so players will have plenty of room to fit more long-lasting Secondary and Supporting Units to focus on holding objectives while Lord Maul does what he does best.

If there’s one thing the Clone Wars demonstrated, it was that being identical doesn’t mean all clones are the same. Today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint preview features a standout officer of that conflict: CC-2224, better known as Clone Commander Cody, who earned his fame as second in command of the 212th Attack Battalion, a force that contributed to the defense of the Republic.

The best soldiers watch each other’s backs, like brothers. The focus of today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint Unit preview, CC-7567 Captain Rex and the 501st Clone Troopers, understand that better than most.

Having broken with the order that broke their faith with her, the subject of our first Star Wars™: Shatterpoint Unit preview is none other than Ahsoka Tano™, Jedi No More.

As the former Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker™, Ahsoka Tano grew from a headstrong student into a mature leader who cares deeply for the people she fights to protect.

Framed for the bombing of the Jedi Temple, she cleared her name only to leave the Jedi Order behind in search of her own path. Guided by her own intuition and compassion, that path led her to become one of the greatest heroes of the Clone Wars

This Star Wars™: Shatterpoint preview presents one of the most essential staple units in the Galactic Republic, the Clone Commandos, who join the Clone Troopers to make up the majority of the rank and file during the Clone Wars, giving that conflict its name.

Saw this game at AMG's corp office/store setup when I went to pick up my Keyforge kick starter. It had a cool table prescense. Kind of thinking of getting the core set, and worse case scenario, it's some more (expensive) terrain for my Legion collection.

Catching up on this thread... I know painting is a big part of this hobby, and I plan to try it out someday, but shoot... I've probably spent over $1,000 on Legion (have pretty much complete Clone and Droid army, half of Empire, and my buddy has the rest of Empire and rebels). None of our stuff is painted. Would certainly be cooler if we have had it painted, but still great to play whether we ever get to the painting side or not.

As I've said many many times, if anyone finds themselves overburdened by time, money, and space in their home... miniature wargaming and painting effectively cures all three problems immediately!

I will say, if you're looking to get into painting, the most important things to keep in mind as a beginner are...

1) ANY paint job is gonna look better than naked plastic. Especially when you're starting out and stuff isn't going to look "great," even a prime and a base coat of the main colors will look so much better than plain, assembled minis.

2) Remember that you're going to spend 99% of your time playing with the minis at a distance... any of the "flaws" you notice when you've got the thing inches away from your face will simply not be noticeable when you have an army on the table

3) Try to keep in mind that if you follow tutorials on youtube and stuff, a lot of those people have been painting for years and even if you've got the same paint, brushes, and tools, it's very easy to not get results like they do

4) Thin your paints! This isn't an issue if you're using Contrast Paint, Speedpaint, Instant Paints, Xpress Color, etc., since you don't really need to do that with those. But "normal" paints, yeah, you gotta do that. Different paints have different consistencies and it can be tough to know how thin to go and how thin you CAN go before the pigment "breaks" and you've got a watery mess more suited for glazing or washing

But if you wanna get started with Legion or Shatterpoint painting, Sorastro's tutorials on youtube are a decent place to start!

I plan on painting Shatterpoint once I finish off Clan Wren from Legion, so hopefully later this week.

Well said. Sorastro is a great starting point, but trying to match him stroke for stroke, especially at the beginning, is going to lead to frustration. He’s a great jumping off point into making the minis look how you want them. Good from 3 feet plays just as well as good from 3 inches.

As memorable as the galaxy’s great heroes are, there’s a reason so many people prefer to root for the bad guys. The various members of the Empire’s Inquisitorious continue this tradition in fine form, each being terrifying in unique ways. For this Star Wars™: Shatterpoint preview, let’s take a look at the Grand Inquisitor, Fallen Jedi and Third Sister from the Jedi Hunters Squad Pack.

Today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint preview features perhaps the most recognizably infamous silhouette from all of Star Wars—the four-armed, quad-lightsaber-wielding dervish of death known as General Grievous! This bad-tempered leader of the Separatist Alliance proved himself to be a formidable foe even the Jedi did not engage recklessly.

Perhaps the most enigmatic and intimidating of the galaxy’s Force using traditions are the Nightsisters of Dathomir, a clan of witches who manipulate the dark side to invoke deadly magick. Today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint preview will look at a coven of Nightsisters led by their formidable leader, Mother Talzin found in the Witches of Dathomir Squad Pack!
